The allergy profile and accompanying sinonasal pathologies in patients with bronchial asthma
Conclusion: In bronchial asthma patients with positive test result for skin prick testing, the most common allergy was found against the grains, weeds, and the house dusts. Deviated septum, turbinate hypertrophy, serous discharge, and pallor of the mucous membranes were often detected pathologies in physical examination. According to the radiologic findings, mucosal thickening and opacification of the sinuses were most common imaging findings.

Allergy Testing in Asthmatics and Severe Asthmatics in Belgium : Role of Comorbidities
Conclusions: There is a large heterogeneity among Belgian respiratory physicians regarding decision making in allergy testing in patients with asthma. Comorbidities and exposure play an important role in the suspicion of an allergic component in patients with asthma.

Assessment of current practice of paediatric respiratory and allergy teams in Cambridge University Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic era and optimisation of the service
Introduction: The paediatric respiratory and allergy teams in Cambridge Hospital see patients with atopic and overlapping conditions, thus increasing travel for patients and hospital footfall. It is a tertiary reference hospital covering East England. Assessment of practice and changes of the service, in view of COVID-19 pandemic.Method: Retrospective assessment of patients: a) referred between the specialties (1/4/19- 31/3/20), investigations booked (lung function, skin prick testing, specific IgE, peak flow, inhaler and nasal spray technique) and patient flow. b) currently being seen by both teams (1/4/18-31/3/20).R...

Allergy in patients with lymphangioleiomyomatosis
Conclusions: LAM patients with allergy more frequently: suffered on sporadic LAM, had severe lung function impairment, and were treated with mTOR inhibitors than patients without allergy.

Prenatal tobacco exposure and risk of asthma and allergy outcomes in childhood
Conclusion Prenatal tobacco exposure was associated with asthma dependent on 17q12-21 genotype and with exacerbations, lung function and bronchial responsiveness, but not with any allergy-related outcomes. This suggests that tobacco exposure in utero leads to adverse lung developmental/structural effects rather than susceptibility to develop allergy and type 2 inflammation.

Association of allergy with chronic sinusitis in children
Conclusions: Allergic rhinitis, asthma, specific IgE, positive prick allergy tests, eosinophilia, and adenoid hypertrophy were associated with chronic sinusitis in children, suggesting that allergy may contribute to the development of chronic sinusitis.

Modern allergy diagnostics in China: The past and present
Aims: Despite a variety of difficulties, allergy diagnostics in China wound its way of advancement over half a century. Here we presented a comprehensive review on the past and present of modern allergy diagnostics in China. Methods: History of allergy research in China was reviewed, methods of modern allergy diagnostics were briefly introduced and the application of each method was discussed. Results: After reviewed, nearly 300 hospitals or medical research institutes published manuscripts related to allergen detection. Prevalence of allergies in China is on the rise due to urbanization and westernization of life-style and ...

Predicting childhood allergy using machine learning methods on multi-omics data
Asthma, rhinitis, and eczema, are among the most prevalent allergic diseases worldwide. They have strong genetic and epigenetic contributions. We hypothesized that an integration of multi-omics layers can accurately predict allergy using machine learning methods. We combined data on environmental and genetic risk scores with blood and nasal DNA methylation data from 348 subjects aged 16-years from the Dutch PIAMA (Prevention and Incidence of Asthma and Mite Allergy) birth cohort. After assessing multiple machine learning methods, we selected Elastic Net for its accuracy, low overfit and interpretability. The majority of pred...

Secular trends in the prevalence of childhood asthma and allergy between 1991 and 2013 in Greece: Towards an asthma-allergy dissociation?
Conclusions: The prevalence of childhood asthma decreased between 2008 and 2013 in the city of Patras, Greece. Although the prevalence of allergic disorders continued to rise during the same period, the contribution of allergy and the risk of asthma among allergic children decreased.

Allergy symptoms in personnel from a museum complex
Conclusions: The bioaerosols in the workplace air might induce the diagnosed allergenic symptoms. This is supported by the significantly higher prevalence of elevated serum Ig in exposed. The allergenic potential of the workplace air should be monitored and reduced.

Volatile organic compounds and risk of asthma and allergy: a systematic review
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are ubiquitous domestic pollutants. Their role in asthma/allergy development and exacerbations is uncertain. This systematic review investigated whether domestic VOC exposure increases the risk of developing and/or exacerbating asthma and allergic disorders. We systematically searched 11 databases and three trial repositories, and contacted an international panel of experts to identify published and unpublished experimental and epidemiological studies. 8455 potentially relevant studies were identified; 852 papers were removed after de-duplication, leaving 7603 unique papers that were scree...

No increase in non-specific bronchial hyperreactivy in patients with cypress pollen allergy during the pollen season
Background: A previous study has shown that patients with cypress pollen allergy have a much higher prevalence of cough during the pollen season compared to patients suffering from grass pollen allergy. Besides, non specific BHR has been shown to increase in grass-pollen allergic patients during the pollen season. To investigate whether cough is an indicator of bronchial hyperractiviy (BHR), we compared non specific BHR outside and during the pollen season. Methods: We selected 31 patients (mean age: 39.7+/-12.3 yrs) suffering from cypress pollen allergy defined by a rhino-conjunctivitis occurring during the cypress pollen ...
