House dust mite allergy and shrimp allergy: a complex interaction.
Conclusions. Shrimp allergy seems to occur uniquely in association with hypersensitivity to HDM allergens and tropomyosin is the main shrimp allergen but not a major one, at least in Italy. Along with tropomyosin-specific IgE levels, monosensitization to HDM seems to represent a risk factor for the development of shrimp allergy among HDM allergic patients. Skin tests and challenge-based drug allergy diagnosis: a retrospective study of patients with confirmed drug allergy.
Conclusions. Most drug allergy diagnoses were based on multistep DCT. The identified predictors of DCT interruption during up-dosing can support the development of more personalized DCTs protocols. PMID: 31594290 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The psychological impact of food allergy and undergoing a food challenge test in adult age.
Conclusions. People who have a food allergy excluded following a food challenge have better HRQoL. There was a significant improvement in HRQoL following an open food challenge which supports the need to increase provision of food challenge testing in this age group. The oral food desensitization in the Italian allergy centres.
CONCLUSION: Although OFD may sometimes be successful and may be considered a valid alternative to an elimination diet, further randomized controlled trials are needed, in order to clarify some controversial points, such as the characteristics of the child undergoing OFD, and the methods of food preparation and administration. Moreover, further studies should further investigate OFD safety, efficacy and costs. PMID: 25951144 [PubMed - in process]

Impact of allergy on children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Conclusion. Children with ADHD had an increased prevalence of allergic diseases. Evaluation of allergy in ADHD is mandatory, to decrease the burden of the condition. PMID: 30067000 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Bovine Serum Albumin: a double allergy risk.
Authors: Voltolini S, Spigno F, Cioè A, Cagnati P, Bignardi D, Minale P Abstract We analyse two cases of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) allergy. The first regards a female laboratory technician with a history of bronchial asthma due to cat allergy, who developed an exacerbation of bronchial symptoms as a consequence of BSA powder inhalation at work. To date, sensitization to BSA as a cause of occupational asthma has rarely been reported in the scientific literature. The second case concerns a woman with a similar cat sensitivity, who presented an oral allergy syndrome-type clinical reaction, gastric pain and diarrhoea...

An overview of fruit allergy and the causative allergens.
Authors: Hassan AK, Venkatesh YP Abstract Plant allergens, being one of the most widespread allergenic substances, are hard to avoid. Hence, their identification and characterization are of prime importance for the diagnosis and treatment of food allergy. The reported allergies to fruits mainly evoke oral allergy syndrome caused by the presence of cross-reactive IgE to certain pollens and thus, allergy to fruits has also been linked to particular pollens. Many fruit allergies are being studied for their causative allergens, and are being characterized. Some tropical or exotic fruits are responsible for region-speci...

A very unusual case of food allergy, between FPIES and IgE-mediated food allergy.
We describe an unusual case of FPIES to egg in a 21-months-old child, because of its clinical characteristics that reflect some aspects of IgE-mediated allergy and other of non IgE-mediated allergy. Although we believe that the most correct diagnosis for our case is FPIES, we think also that this is undoubtedly an atypical form. This is in fact, the first description of a patient who simultaneously has both clinical expressions of IgE-mediated FA that of FPIES. Our case highlights the need to review criteria for FPIES diagnosis. PMID: 28120606 [PubMed - in process]

Cypress pollen allergy is responsible for two distinct phenotypes of allergic rhinitis different from other pollinosis.
Authors: Pahus L, Gouitaa M, Sofalvi T, Alagha K, Gras D, Chanez P, Charpin D Abstract Summary: Different phenotypes of allergic rhinitis have been identified based on the seasonality of the allergen involved. Within pollinosis, importance has to be paid to the responsible pollen species. Guidelines for clinical management are mostly based on studies performed in patients with grass pollen allergy. Only few data is available on tree pollen allergy and more specifically on cypress pollen allergy. We focused on the clinical and biological features of cypress pollen allergy to determine whether it is associated with a...

Oral allergy syndrome amongst young Mexicans: prevalence and associated factors.
Conclusions. Notably, the prevalence of OAS varies according to the geographic area. Personal histories of allergy to pollen or latex were the main factors linked to OAS. PMID: 29533053 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cross-elicitation responses to 2-methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine in p-phenylenediamine highly allergic volunteers using allergy alert test: the Italian experience.
Conclusions. Me-PPD may offer a safer alternative for PPD-allergic patients with an absent or reduced elicitation response in the allergy alert test simulating hair dye use conditions. Even patients with strong patch test reactions, with appropriate selection by allergy alert test and counselling, may be able to tolerate hair dyeing with Me-PPD containing products. Occupational allergy to dog among police dog trainers.
This study was aimed to reveal the prevalence of dog allergy and other common allergy and allergic symptoms in police dog trainers. Fifty-six police dog trainers and 150 workers as control group were included in this study. Medical records of dog trainers including respiratory, skin, eye symptoms and physical examinations and skin prick test results are compared with the medical records of control group. Positive SPT to dog was present in 21.4% of dog trainers, whereas the frequency of sensitization to dog in the control group was 1.3% (p minor 0.001). Dog allergy development risk is found 20 times greater in dog trainers ...

Drug allergy is associated with the development of extraintestinal manifestations in patients with ulcerative colitis.
Authors: Toledo-Maurino JJ Abstract Summary: Drug allergies are developed by antibody or cell-mediated reactions as immunologic mechanisms. It has been demonstrated that hypersensitivity reaction to certain allergens may play a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) focused on food allergies. A total of 256 patients with UC were divided in two groups: 203 patients with active UC and 53 in remission UC were included in the present study. In the present study we found that 11.7% had allergy to at least one drug distributed. The most frequent drug-allergies were sulfonamides in 2.8% and penicilli...
