16-year trends in asthma hospital admissions in Canada
CONCLUSION: Following a substantial decline in hospital admissions for acute asthma, there has been minimal further decline since 2010 for children and 2008 for adults. In addition to adhering to the contemporary standards of asthma care, novel, disruptive strategies are likely needed to further reduce the burden of asthma.PMID:35779843 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.06.022

There ’s a shortage of monkeypox vaccine. Could one dose instead of two suffice?
As the monkeypox outbreak grows, the preferred vaccine to combat it is in short supply—a problem that’s only getting worse now that countries are expanding access to the vaccine. But there is a strategy that could double overnight the number of people who can be vaccinated: use a single shot instead of the recommended two. What to Know About the Latest Advances in Managing Severe Asthma
Graphs and charts don’t always tell the whole story. Numbers can be deceiving. But anyone who looks at U.S. trends in asthma mortality can see, without squinting, that things are moving in the right direction. A 2019 analysis in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that from 1999 to 2015, asthma mortality fell by 43%. “The decrease in asthma-related mortality was consistent in both sexes and in all race groups, with the largest decrease in patients older than 65 years,” the authors concluded. Figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that the...

Tree Nut-Induced Anaphylaxis in Canadian Emergency Departments: Rate, Clinical Characteristics and Management
CONCLUSION: Different TNA patterns in Canada may be due to differences in lifestyle (higher prevalence of Asian ethnicity in British Columbia versus Arabic ethnicity in Ontario and Quebec). IM epinephrine underutilization urges for EAI stocking in schools and restaurants, patient education, and consistent policies across Canada.PMID:35718284 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.06.008

Sesame-Induced Anaphylaxis in Pediatric Patients from the Cross-Canada Anaphylaxis Registry
CONCLUSION: In Canada, hummus is the major trigger of sesame-induced anaphylaxis. Knowledge translation focused on prompt epinephrine use and product-labelling policies are required to limit sesame reactions in communities.PMID:35697193 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.06.005
