Effects of the Pandemic on the Care of Patients With Colorectal Cancer
CONCLUSION: Three years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still only a limited evidence base for an evaluation of the effects of the pandemic on medical care and on the outcomes of patients with CRC in Germany. The implementation of central data and research infrastructures will be necessary for further study of the long-term effects of this pandemic, as well as to enable optimal preparedness for future crisis situations.PMID:37427989 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0139

Treatment Strategies in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
CONCLUSION: The treatment of a patient with IBD must take his or her prior treatment(s) and comorbidities into account, along with individual patient characteristics and treatment goals. Rational decision-making is required on the basis of the mechanism of action and the side-effect profile of the various drugs that are now available for use.PMID:37408514 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0142

The Role of Acetylsalicylic Acid in the Prevention of Pre-Eclampsia, Fetal Growth Restriction, and Preterm Birth
CONCLUSION: ASA use during pregnancy has benefits beyond reducing the risk of pre-eclampsia. The indications for taking ASA during pregnancy may be extended at some point in the future; at present, in view of the available evidence, it is still restricted to high-risk pregnancies.PMID:37378599 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0133

The Surgical Restoration of Arm and Hand Function in Tetraplegic Patients
CONCLUSION: Modern techniques of hand surgery can help suitably selected tetraparetic and tetraplegic patients regain the use of their upper limbs. Competent interdisciplinary counseling about these surgical options should be offered as early as possible to all affected persons as an integral part of their treatment plan.PMID:37378597 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0141
