Spectrum of Serious Neurological and Psychiatric Adverse Events in Indian COVID-19 Vaccine Recipients: A Systematic Review of Case Reports and Case Series
Neurol India. 2023 Mar-Apr;71(2):209-227. doi: 10.4103/0028-3886.375420.ABSTRACTIndian data regarding serious neurological and psychiatric adverse events, following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, are lacking. We, therefore, systematically evaluated cases of post-vaccinal serious neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions published from India. A systematic review of cases published from India, which were archived in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, was performed; pre-print databases along with ahead-of-print contents were searched in addition. Retrieved articles, as on June 27, 2022, were ...

Genetic characterization of varicella-zoster virus in people aged 20 years and under in Yichang City of Hubei Province, 2019-2020
Conclusion: The main VZV strain causing herpes zoster in people aged 20 years and under in Yichang from 2019 to 2020 was Clade 2.PMID:37147833 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn112338-20221027-00915

An evaluation of influenza, pneumococcal and herpes zoster vaccination coverage in Australian aged care residents, 2018 to 2022
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed local influenza vaccination policies and practices exist and influenza vaccination uptake was consistently high. Pneumococcal and herpes zoster vaccination uptake were lower. Quality improvement strategies that at least determine the status of those residents classified as unknown are required.PMID:37147271 | DOI:10.1016/j.idh.2023.03.005

Predictors of Five-Year Persistence of Antibody Responses to Zoster Vaccines
CONCLUSION: Antibody responses and avidity were higher and more persistent in RZV than ZVL recipients. The effect of age on antibody persistence in RZV recipients is novel.PMID:37141390 | DOI:10.1093/infdis/jiad132

Engaging Multistakeholder Perspectives to Identify Patient-Centered Research Priorities Regarding Vaccine Uptake Among Adults With Autoimmune Conditions
CONCLUSION: A multistakeholder group identified key topics as critically important priorities for future research to decrease vaccine hesitancy and improve uptake of vaccines for adults with autoimmune conditions.PMID:37127530 | DOI:10.1002/acr2.11546

Influenza, Pneumococcal and Herpes Zoster Vaccination Rates in Patients with Autoimmune Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases
CONCLUSIONS: The frequencies of vaccinations against influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae and HZ have increased during recent years. While this can be partly explained by continuous efforts in patient education during the outpatient visits, the COVID-19 pandemic might also have contributed. Nevertheless, the persistently high incidence and mortality of these preventable diseases in patients with AIIRDs mandates further efforts to increase vaccination coverage, particularly in SLE patients.PMID:37112672 | PMC:PMC10146832 | DOI:10.3390/vaccines11040760

ATAGI Targeted Review 2022: Vaccination for prevention of herpes zoster in Australia
Commun Dis Intell (2018). 2023 Apr 27;47. doi: 10.33321/cdi.2023.47.21.ABSTRACTIn November 2016, herpes zoster (HZ) vaccination for older adults, using the live-attenuated zoster vaccine (Zostavax; ZVL) was added to the Australian National Immunisation Program (NIP) with the aim of reducing morbidity from HZ and its complications, particularly for people at increased risk. Prior to the program, there were on average 5.6 cases of HZ per 1,000 persons annually in Australia, with highest risk of disease in older and in immunocompromised people. The burden of complications of HZ, such as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), was also...

Inactivated COVID-19 vaccine-related herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia: Three case reports
In this report, we describe three cases of HZ, one of them with post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) after receiving inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. The first two patients developed HZ 8 and 10 days after vaccination, respectively. When pain could not be controlled with paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, the patients received weak opioid codeine. In addition, the first patient received gabapentin, and the second patient was applied erector spinae plane block. The third patient was admitted 4 months after the diagnosis of HZ and considered to have PHN and pain palliation was provided with tramadol. Although the exact...

Vaccine co-administration in adults: An effective way to improve vaccination coverage
Hum Vaccin Immunother. 2023 Apr 11:2195786. doi: 10.1080/21645515.2023.2195786. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ongoing COVID-19 pandemic highlights that complications and mortality associated with infectious diseases increase with age. Various vaccines are recommended for adults, but coverage rates remain suboptimal. Although co-administration would improve vaccine uptake and timely immunization, this is not routine practice in adults. We review key data on co-administration of vaccines in children and adults to reassure healthcare providers about its safety and advantages. In European countries and the United States, c...

Increased Myocardial Infarction Risk Following Herpes Zoster Infection
CONCLUSIONS: Herpes zoster infection was associated with an increased risk of MI within the first 30 days postinfection. History of prior MI, male sex, age ≥50 years, history of heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, human immunodeficiency virus, prior cerebrovascular accident, and renal disease increased odds of MI 30 days postinfection with herpes zoster. Herpes zoster vaccination decreased the odds of developing an MI in patients aged ≥50 years.PMID:37035490 | PMC:PMC10077824 | DOI:10.1093/ofid/ofad137
