Augmentative Plating in the Treatment of Femoral Nonunion after Intramedullary Nail Fixation
CONCLUSIONS: A high proportion of individuals with femoral nonunion after IMN fixation were salvaged by AP and an autogenous bone graft. Bi-cortical plate and screw intersection of more than six cortices may increase the treatment effectiveness.LIMITATIONS: There were limitations of this study. First, it was a retrospective study over a 10-year period, and the patients were treated by different orthopedic surgeons. Second, lack of functional evaluation is another limitation of the present work.GENERALIZABILITY: The technique of bi-cortical plate and screw intersection of more than six cortices is not difficult for experien...

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma Mimicking Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Report and Literature Review
CONCLUSION: Patients with AITL generally have a poor prognosis. Rarely do reported cases show AITL mimicking SLE. AITL should be considered during clinical practice to prevent missed diagnoses or misdiagnoses.PMID:37708543

Using the Perimeter-Derived Diameter and Ellipticity Index of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone to Predict Watchman Occluder Size
CONCLUSIONS: The longest diameter and the PDD methods predicted occluder size with a high degree of accuracy when the LAAs EI < 1.198; the PDD method is suggested to be a preferred method to treatAF.PMID:37708542

Analysis of HLA Profiles in 390 Uveitis Cases: Insights into Clinical Presentations
CONCLUSIONS: Human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) play a significant role in the mechanism of uveitis. HLA-B27 exhibits high diagnostic value in acute AU, while HLA-DR4 and HLA-DRw53 are crucial for diagnosing binocular uveitis, particularly Vogt Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) syndrome. Further investigation is warranted to explore the relationship between HLA-DR4, HLA-DRw53, and uveitis.PMID:37708541

PIK3R6 Promotes Angiogenesis in Hepatocellular carcinoma by Activating STAT3 Signaling Pathway
This study aims to explore the intrinsic mechanism of PIK3R6 and provide theoretical reference for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.METHODS: Differential expressions of PIK in ovarian cancer and normal ones were detected by Western blotting and quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). Analyze the relationship between the expression of PIK3R6 and patient prognosis through the TCGA database. Subsequently constructed corresponding stable cell lines, combined with transcriptome sequencing and several cell biology experiments, we explored the inner mechanism and clinical significance of PIK3R6.RESULT...

Klebsiella pneumoniae: adaptive immune landscapes and vaccine horizons
Trends Immunol. 2023 Sep 11:S1471-4906(23)00159-X. doi: 10.1016/j.it.2023.08.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKlebsiella pneumoniae is among the most common antibiotic-resistant pathogens causing nosocomial infections. Additionally, it is a leading cause of neonatal sepsis and childhood mortality across the globe. Despite its clinical importance, we are only beginning to understand how the mammalian adaptive immune system responds to this pathogen. Further, many studies investigating potential K. pneumoniae vaccine candidates or alternative therapies have been launched in recent years. Here, we review the current state o...

Finding Power in My Panic Attacks
Trouble started in the form of rivulets of sweat dampening the waistband of my underwear. It was a bluebird afternoon in Phoenix in December of 2020, mid 60s, desert dry, and my heart was jackhammering against my ribcage. Breathing felt like I was sucking air through a stir straw. A small ABC News crew was arrayed before me, ready to broadcast the report I’d written that day, but with my vision narrowed to a needle’s eye, I could barely see them. I tried to swallow away the sandiness in my mouth but realized I’d forgotten how. [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] “I can’t swallow!...
