Lung Cancer Screening With Low-Dose Computed Tomography: Current Status in Germany
CONCLUSION: Systematic lung cancer screening with low-dose CT lowers mortality from lung cancer in (current or former) heavy smokers. This benefit must be weighed against the high rate of false-positive findings and overdiagnoses.PMID:37198995 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0099

Conservative Functional Treatment of Acute Fibular Ligament Rupture of the Ankle
CONCLUSION: Conservative functional treatment is now the standard treatment in acute fibular ligament rupture of the ankle because it is low-risk, low-cost, and safe. Primary surgery is indicated in only 0.5% to 4% of cases. Physical examination for tenderness to palpation and for stability, as well as stress ultrasonography, can be used to differentiate sprains from ligamentous tears. MRI is superior only for the detection of additional injuries. Stable sprains can be successfully treated with an elastic ankle support for a few days, and unstable ligamentous ruptures with an orthosis for 5 to 6 weeks. Subsequent physiothe...

Clinical Practice Guideline: Psychosocial Diagnosis and Treatment Before and After Organ Transplantation
CONCLUSION: The care of patients before and after organ transplantation should be multidisciplinary. Nonadherence rates and comorbid mental disorders are common and associated with poorer outcomes after transplantation. Interventions to improve adherence are effective, although the pertinent studies display marked heterogeneity and a high risk of bias. *All of the issuing bodies, authors, and editors of the guideline are listed in eTables 1 and 2.PMID:37101343 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0087

Antibody-Drug Conjugates as a Targeted Therapeutic Approach Across Entities in Oncology
CONCLUSION: ADCs are a novel category of drugs for the treatment of cancer. Their approval is mainly, but not exclusively, based on the favorable findings of randomized, controlled phase III trials. ADCs are already helping to improve the outcomes of treatment for cancer.PMID:37073718 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0093

The Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteosarcoma and Ewing's Sarcoma in Children and Adolescents
CONCLUSION: With implementation of the current treatment recommendations, most children and adolescents with malignant bone tumors can be treated successfully with curative intent. These patients should be referred to a sarcoma center for diagnosis and treatment.PMID:37097079 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0079

Perioperative Arrhythmias
CONCLUSION: The identification of high-risk patients and the provision of individualized perioperative monitoring are essential aspects of patient safety. Outpatient cardiological follow-up can improve outcomes.PMID:37097070 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0052

Bacterial Vaginosis —Vaginal Polymicrobial Biofilms and Dysbiosis
CONCLUSION: The simplistic view of BV as dysbiosis, characterizable by microscopic reference methods, has so far led to inadequate therapeutic success. An evaluation of molecular genetic testing methods that would be suitable for routine use and the development of therapeutic agents that are effective against biofilms are urgently needed if the "bacterial vaginosis syndrome" is to be effectively treated.PMID:37097068 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0090
