Methods for the involvement of people living with dementia in research focused on the built environment: a protocol for a scoping review
Introduction The positive influence of a well-designed built environment in dementia-specific care has been known for several years. Many studies focusing on the built environment have captured the perspectives of people living with dementia. However, it remains unclear to what degree and with which methods these individuals have been actively involved in research especially when attempting to understand their perspective. The planned scoping review aims to (1) synthesise methods and results from research about the built environment according to active involvement of people living with dementia and (2) describe facilitator...

Understanding how and why upskilling programmes for unregulated care providers can support health equity in underserved communities: a realist review protocol
Introduction Foot ulcers are one of the most devastating complications of diabetes mellitus leading to leg amputations. In Canada, systematically marginalised and racialised populations are more prone to developing foot ulcers and at higher risk of limb amputations. Shortages of regulated healthcare have hindered efforts to provide foot care. Upskilling unregulated care providers (UCPs) to deliver foot screening seems a reasonable solution to reduce limb loss. UCPs can advocate for health equity and deliver appropriate care. There is a need, however, to understand how and why an educational intervention for UCPs providing ...

Use of artificial intelligence in the detection of primary prostate cancer in multiparametric MRI with its clinical outcomes: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) has transformed the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway, allowing for improved risk stratification and more targeted subsequent management. However, concerns exist over the interobserver variability of images and the applicability of this model long term, especially considering the current shortage of radiologists and the growing ageing population. Artificial intelligence (AI) is being integrated into clinical practice to support diagnostic and therapeutic imaging analysis to overcome these concerns. The following report details a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis in...

Decision Aids in the ICU: a scoping review
Conclusions The complexity of treatment decisions in the ICU exceeds the current capabilities of existing decision aids. There is a clear gap in decision aids that are tailored to different cultural contexts, highlighting the need to expand the scope of their application. In addition, rigorous quality control is very important for randomised controlled trial, and indicators for assessing the effectiveness of decision aids need to be further clarified.

Prophylactic antibiotic use for infective endocarditis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Although there is a lack of randomised control trials due to logistic difficulties in the literature on this topic, antibiotic prophylaxis are likely of benefit in reducing the incidence of IE in high-risk patients after dental procedures. Further well-designed high-quality case-control studies are required. Trial registration number CRD42022326664.

Efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of urinary incontinence after prostate surgery: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common complication after prostate surgery. Acupuncture treatment (AT) has been proposed as an alternative therapy for this condition. The purpose of this protocol aims to outline a systematic review and meta-analysis that aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of AT in patients with postprostate surgery UI. Methods We will search for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in eight databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang database, SinoMed and VIP database. Additionally, we will search two clinical t...

Adolescent sleep health in Africa: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Problematic sleep is a major threat to health and quality of life among adolescents. Hence, to provide directions for research and interventions, there is a need to examine the literature on adolescent sleep health in Africa. However, available studies on adolescent sleep health in Africa have not been properly mapped. Thus, this scoping review aims to investigate the extent and type of available evidence concerning sleep health among adolescents in Africa and to highlight the relationship of adolescent sleep health with adverse mental health outcomes and cardiometabolic risk factors. The review will further h...

Population health differences in cross-border regions within the European Union and Schengen area: a protocol for a scoping review
Introduction Along with European integration and the harmonisation of living conditions, improvements in health have been observed over the past decades. However, sociospatial inequalities within and across member states still exist today. While drivers of these health inequalities have been widely researched on a national and regional scale, cross-border regions remain understudied. The removal of border controls within the European Union (EU) member states has facilitated economic convergence and created new opportunities, including cross-border cooperation in the healthcare systems. However, whether and how these develo...

Effect of monitoring adherence to regular inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) alone or in combination with a long-acting {beta}2-agonist (LABA) using electronic methods on asthma outcomes: a narrative systematic review
Conclusion Electronic methods improved adherence to inhaled medications in asthma. EMDs appear to be the most effective technology, followed by mHealth. The adherence improvement was associated with a small clinical improvement. There was inconsistent overlapping of terminology describing electronic methods that require standardisation. Data on the cost-effectiveness of electronic devices and their utilisation in severe asthma are lacking and require further research. PROSPERO registration number CRD42022303069.
