Barriers and facilitators of deceased organ donation among Muslims living globally: protocol for an integrative systematic review using narrative synthesis
Introduction Muslims have been shown to have less favourable attitudes towards organ donation and are less likely to consent to donate their organs. While several studies have been undertaken globally to identify the barriers and facilitators of organ donation, no systematic review has synthesised this evidence to date. Therefore, this systematic review aims to identify the barriers and facilitators of organ donation among Muslims living globally. Methods and analysis This systematic review will include cross-sectional surveys and qualitative studies published between 30 April 2008 and 30 June 2023. Evidence will be restr...

Effects of home healthcare for adults with chronic respiratory diseases and post-COVID-19 syndrome on hospital bed turnover rate: a protocol of systematic review with meta-analysis
This study aims to systematically review the effectiveness of home healthcare for patients with CRDs and post-COVID-19 syndrome. Methods and analysis We will search on MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Embase and PsycINFO. We will include randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and non-RCT studies reported in full text and abstracts. No language restriction will be applied. We will include studies related to adults with a diagnosis of CRDs or post-COVID-19 syndrome that compared in-patient hospital care with any home healthcare. We will exclude studies with participants with neurological, mental diseases, cancer or pregnant women. Two review...

Influence of contextual factors on strengthening key strategic and operational levers of primary healthcare to achieve universal health coverage: a protocol for a realist review
Introduction Existing scoping reviews on the link between primary healthcare (PHC) and universal health coverage (UHC) have not sufficiently addressed the underlying causal mechanisms in which key strategic and operational PHC levers contribute to improved health system and realisation of UHC. This realist review aims to examine how key PHC levers work (independently and holistically) to achieve an improved health system and UHC, and the conditions and caveats that influence the outcome. Methods and analysis We will employ a four-step realist evaluation approach: (1) define the review scope and develop initial programme t...

Risk factors for cardiovascular events in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia: protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (heFH) is the most common monogenic cause of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The precise diagnosis of heFH is established by genetic testing. This systematic review will investigate the risk factors that predict cardiovascular events in patients with a genetic diagnosis of heFH. Methods and analysis Our literature search will cover publications from database inception until June 2023. We will undertake a search of CINAHL (trial), clinicalKey, Cochrane Library, DynaMed, Embase, Espacenet, Experiments (trial), Fisterra, ÍnDICEs CSIC, LILACS, L...

Preferences about place of end-of-life care and death of patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families: a protocol for an umbrella review
Introduction For most of history, the majority of people died at home surrounded by family. However, the global scenario has progressively changed towards hospital death and more recently in some countries back again towards home, with indication that COVID-19 may have further increased the number of home deaths. It is therefore timely to establish the state-of-the-art about people’s preferences for place of end-of-life care and death, to understand the full spectrum of preferences, nuances and commonalities worldwide. This protocol describes the methods for an umbrella review which aims to examine and synthesise the...

Risk factors associated with cognitive impairment in patients with COVID-19: a protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction COVID-19 infections have become a global public health emergency. Although COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory disease, some of hospitalised patients exhibit cognitive impairment-related neurological damage. Using a systematic review and meta-analysis, we aim to investigate the risk factors for cognitive impairment in patients with COVID-19. Methods and analysis This meta-analysis has been registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. From inception to 5 August 2022, we will search PubMed, Web of Science, Embase via Ovid, the Chinese Biological Medical Database and the Cochrane...

Does melatonin administration reduce the incidence of postoperative delirium in adults? Systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion This review found that melatonin may reduce the incidence of POD in adults undergoing surgery. However, included studies displayed inconsistency in their methodology and outcome reporting. Further work to determine the optimum regime for melatonin administration, along with consensus of how best to evaluate results, would be beneficial. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021285019.

Fundamental nursing care focusing on older peoples needs and continuity of long-term care: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Knowledge about long-term care services ability, regardless of if the service is home-based or facility-based, to provide an optimal and comprehensive fundamental nursing care (understood as focusing on physical, relational and psychosocial needs) consistently over time is sparse. Research into nursing indicates the presence of a discontinuous and fragmented healthcare service, and that fundamental nursing care such as mobilisation, nutrition and hygiene among older people (65 years and above) seems to be, regardless of reasons, systematically rationed by nursing staff. Thus, our scoping review aims to explore...

Subanaesthetic single-dose ketamine as an adjunct to opioid analgesics for acute pain management in the emergency department: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Available evidence suggests adjuvant SDK can have an effect on lowering pain intensity scores. Although reduction of pain scores was not clinically significant, the combination of reduced pain intensity and reduced opioid requirements suggest the results could be clinically important and support the potential utility of SDK as an adjunct to opioids to treat acute pain in adult ED patients. However, current evidence is limited and higher quality RCTs are needed. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021276708.

Scoping review protocol to map evidence on South-South learning exchange in family planning
Introduction South-South learning exchange (SSLE) is an interactive learning process where stakeholder teams exchange knowledge and experience to help one, or both to work towards change, by identifying, adopting and/or strengthening implementation of a best practice. SSLE has been conducted between countries to share knowledge on best practices and policies in family planning. To the best of our knowledge, no scoping review has been conducted to synthesise evidence on SSLE in family planning. In this paper, we outline the protocol to conduct scoping review on SSLE in family planning. Methods and analysis Arksey and O&rsq...

Prevalence of self-medication in Ghana: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion This study has revealed that self-medication is still an unresolved public health challenge in Ghana, with a high prevalence estimate. Self-medication is influenced by inconveniences associated with accessing healthcare coupled with poor health seeking behaviours. There is the need for improved access to quality healthcare and the promotion of appropriate health-seeking behaviours.

Diagnostic accuracy of heart auscultation for detecting valve disease: a systematic review
Conclusion Sensitivity, specificity and LRs of auscultation varied considerably across the different studies. There is a sparsity of data from general practice, where auscultation of the heart is usually one of the main methods for detecting VHD. Based on this review, the diagnostic utility of auscultation is unclear and medical doctors should not rely too much on auscultation alone. More research is needed on how auscultation, together with other clinical findings and history, can be used to distinguish patients with VHD. PROSPERO registration number CRD42018091675.
