Transfusion-transmitted HBV infection with isolated anti-HBs-positive blood
CONCLUSION: Whatever the basic infection state, blood donors with isolated weak anti-HBs may include a small population with a risk of causing TT-HBV. Identifying individuals harboring such TT-HBV risk among individuals positive only for anti-HBs is difficult under current screening strategies. Active surveillance for the occurrence of TT-HBV with blood positive only for anti-HBs is necessary.PMID:37129363 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17390

Prevalence of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in Patients undergoing hemodialysis at a teaching hospital in Uttarakhand
CONCLUSION: In HD patients, viral hepatitis poses a significant health hazard, particularly in developing countries. HBV vaccination, strict adherence to the universal precautions, segregation of HBV-positive patients can control HBV infection in HD units. However, for HCV, the absence of a specific vaccine and the nosocomial transmission of the virus increase the peril more.PMID:35516698 | PMC:PMC9067204 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1017_21

Hepatitis B virus prevalence in first-time blood donors in Flanders, Belgium: Impact of universal vaccination and migration
DISCUSSION: The decreasing trend in HBV prevalence could mainly be explained by the introduction of the universal HBV vaccination. Being born in endemic areas was the most important predictor for HBV infection while the co-infections with syphilis suggest unreported sexual risk contacts.PMID:33955570 | DOI:10.1111/trf.16431

Hepatitis B Virus Infection and Its Determinants among Pregnant Women in Ethiopia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Conclusions: HBV infection among pregnant women is a common public health problem in Ethiopia. Multiple sexual partners, abortion history, blood transfusion history, and body tattoo were significantly associated with HBV infection. Policies and strategies should focus on factors identified in this study to improve the prevention of HBV among pregnant women. PMID: 32577077 [PubMed - in process]

Can Gingko and Turmeric Help Stop Ebola?
Summary There is no known pharmaceutical currently available that specifically treats Ebola disease. One treatment modality that should be considered is the use of herbal medicines, which have both centuries old anecdotal success as well as recent modern biochemical and formal research rationales for their use. Five areas of action that could be addressed by the herbal medicines as it relates to Ebola would be: VP24/immune system evasion GP protein/replicatio; herbal strategies effective against similar hemorrhagic disease beneficial modulation of patient immune and inflammatory response systems prophylactic use for heal...
