Insight into increased risk of portal vein thrombosis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Eur J Intern Med. 2023 Jun 15:S0953-6205(23)00207-8. doi: 10.1016/j.ejim.2023.06.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the leading chronic liver diseases with increased morbidity and mortality rates for extrahepatic diseases (including cardiovascular disease, portal vein thrombosis, etc.). There is an increased risk of thrombosis in both the portal and systemic circulation in patients with NAFLD, independent of traditional liver cirrhosis. However, increased portal pressure, the most critical factor, is frequently observed in NAFLD patients, predisposing them to portal vein t...

Comorbidities and the use of comedications among patients with chronic hepatitis C in Korea: A nationwide cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: With the increasing age of patients with CHC, comorbidity, comedication, and potential DDI should be considered when choosing antivirals in Korea. Sofosbuvir-based regimens showed favorable DDI profiles among Korean patients.PMID:37032119 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2022.215

The effect of sex inequality on solid organ transplantation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Females represent one-third of SOT recipients but have higher survival rates than males after liver and kidney transplantation. The impact on graft dysfunction was heterogeneous. While further research is warranted, our findings should encourage clinicians and researchers to consider sex as a factor when taking decisions regarding SOT management.PMID:36585321 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2022.12.009

Therapeutic thoracic duct drainage: A systematic review of the Eastern European experience and future potential
Lymphology. 2022;55(3):86-109.ABSTRACTThoracic duct drainage (TDD) is gaining renewed interest, largely due to accumulation of evidence supporting the gut-lymph model, where toxic mesenteric lymph from the intestine contributes to development of multi-organ failure in acute and critical illness (ACI). Advances in minimally invasive TDD have added to this growing interest. The English TDD literature has been previously reviewed, but the more extensive Eastern European literature has not been available to English readers. Therefore, we undertook a systematic search of Eastern European human TDD studies using Scopus and PubMe...
