Risk factors of SARS-CoV-2 infection in cancer patients pre- and post-vaccination
CONCLUSION: Collectively, this is the first study from KSA to report potential risk factors of SARS-CoV-2 infection in cancer patients pre- and post-vaccination. Further investigations on these risk factors in a larger cohort are worthwhile to draw a definitive conclusion about their roles in predisposing cancer patients to the infection.PMID:35943973 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0272869

Optimized infection control practices augment the robust protective effect of vaccination for ESRD patients during a hemodialysis facility SARS-CoV-2 outbreak
CONCLUSIONS: Prompt recognition of an infection cluster and rapid intervention efforts successfully ended the outbreak. Alongside consistent adherence to core infection prevention measures, vaccination was highly effective in reducing disease incidence and morbidity in this vulnerable population.PMID:35868457 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajic.2022.06.025

Impact of tozinameran (BNT162b2) mRNA vaccine on kidney transplant and chronic dialysis patients: 3-5  months follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: Dialysis patients, and more strikingly kidney transplant recipients, mounted reduced antibody response to COVID-19 mRNA vaccination. Lesser humoral response was associated with more infections. Measures to identify and protect non-responsive patients are required.PMID:34988942 | PMC:PMC8731189 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-021-01210-y

End-Stage Renal Disease: Medical Management
Am Fam Physician. 2021 Nov 1;104(5):493-499.ABSTRACTEnd-stage renal disease (ESRD) is diagnosed when kidney function is no longer adequate for long-term survival without kidney transplantation or dialysis. Primary care clinicians should refer people at risk of ESRD to nephrology to optimize disease management. Kidney transplantation typically yields the best patient outcomes, although most patients are treated with dialysis. The decision to initiate dialysis is best made through shared decision-making. Because most patients with ESRD elect to receive hemodialysis, the preservation of peripheral veins is important for those...
