Sirtuin1, not NAMPT, possesses anti-inflammatory effects in epicardial, pericardial and subcutaneous adipose tissue in patients with CHD
CONCLUSION: The study indicates that targeting SIRT1, with its anti-inflammatory properties, may be a novel anti-inflammatory strategy in preventing atherosclerosis and CHD progression. NAMPT may be an early player in AT inflammation, mediating/reflecting a pro-inflammatory state.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Registration: Clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT02760914, registered the 5th of February 2016, http://clinicaltrials.gov/NCT02760914.PMID:37730614 | DOI:10.1186/s12967-023-04518-4

A 50-something with Regular Wide Complex Tachycardia: What to do if electrical cardioversion does not work?
Case submitted by anonymous. Written by Smith.  Ken ' s piece at the bottom is excellent.A 50-something presented with sudden onset palpitations 8 hrs prior while sitting at desk at work. He had concurrent sharp substernal chest pain that resolved, but palpitations continued.Over past 3 months, he has had similar intermittent episodes of sharp chest pain while running, but none at rest. Past medical history includes coronary stenting 17 years prior. A brief chart review revealed his most recent echo in 2018, with LV EF 67%, “very small” inferior wall motion abnormality.Initial ED ECG:What do you think? This wa...

Klotho/FGF23 Axis Regulates Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis and Cytokine Release through ERK/MAPK Pathway
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s12012-023-09805-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronary artery disease (CAD) as a major cardiovascular disease is the leading global cause of mortality, Klotho/FGF23 axis involved in development of cardiovascular disease, while the function and underlying mechanism of Klotho/FGF23 axis in CAD is unclear. Blood samples from 67 CAD patients with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery were collected, and the level of Klotho and FGF23 of those patients was measured by using an ELISA kit. Cardiomyocyte was isolated from 0 to 3 days Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. Expression of Klo...

The Predictive Role of Small Airway Dysfunction in Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation After Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that small airway obstruction, as indicated by forced expiratory flow 25%-75% in spirometry, can be a simple predictive tool for the development of postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing isolated CABG.PMID:37671522 | DOI:10.5543/tkda.2023.33522
