Cardiopulmonary exercise testing provides additional prognostic information in cystic fibrosis.
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, CPET provides additional prognostic information to established predictors of death/LTx in CF. High risk patients may especially benefit from regular monitoring of exercise capacity and exercise counselling. PMID: 30321487 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Single-Cell Transcriptomic Analysis of Human Lung Provides Insights into the Pathobiology of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
CONCLUSIONS: We generated a single cell atlas of pulmonary fibrosis. Using this atlas we demonstrated heterogeneity within alveolar macrophages and epithelial cells from subjects with pulmonary fibrosis. These results support the feasibility of discovery-based approaches using next generation sequencing technologies to identify signaling pathways for targeting in the development of personalized therapies for patients with pulmonary fibrosis. The dataset is available at https://nupulmonary.org/resources/. PMID: 30554520 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Non-Invasive Imaging Biomarker Identifies Small Airway Damage in Severe COPD.
CONCLUSION: PRMfSAD identifies areas of lung tissue with TB loss, luminal narrowing, and obstruction. This is first confirmation that an imaging biomarker can identify terminal bronchial pathology in established COPD and provides a non-invasive imaging methodology to identify small airway damage in COPD. Role of B7H3/IL-33 Signaling in Pulmonary Fibrosis-induced Profibrogenic Alterations in Bone Marrow.
CONCLUSIONS: Pulmonary fibrosis caused significant alterations in BM with expansion and activation of monocytic cells, which enhanced fibrosis when transplanted to naïve recipients with potential mediation by novel role for B7H3 in the pathophysiology of pulmonary fibrosis in both mouse and human. Rare Protein-altering Telomere-related Gene Variants in Patients with Chronic Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis.
CONCLUSIONS: A substantial proportion of patients diagnosed with CHP have rare, protein-altering variants in telomere-related genes, which are associated with short peripheral blood telomere length and significantly reduced transplant-free survival. Lung Innate Lymphoid Cell Composition is Altered in Primary Graft Dysfunction.
CONCLUSIONS: The composition of donor ILC subsets is altered following allograft reperfusion and is associated with PGD development, suggesting that ILCs may be involved in regulating lung injury in lung transplant recipients. PMID: 31394048 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
