Tanzania's human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program: Community awareness, feasibility, and acceptability of a national HPV vaccination program, 2019
CONCLUSION: The HPV vaccination program in Tanzania was well accepted by community stakeholders in 18 councils; adequate knowledge of HPV vaccine and the HPV vaccination program was demonstrated by health workers and school personnel. However, continued technical support for integration of HPV vaccination as a routine immunization activity and reinforcement of basic knowledge about HPV vaccine in specific community groups is needed. The Tanzania experience provides an example of how this vaccine can be integrated into routine immunization delivery strategies and can be a useful resource for countries planning to introduce ...

Reduction of HPV16/18 prevalence in young women after eight years of three- and two-dose vaccination schemes
CONCLUSION: HPV vaccination, with two-dose of bivalent or three-dose schemes-either with the bivalent or quadrivalent vaccine-, was associated with a lower prevalence of HPV16/18 types eight years after primary immunization.PMID:34183205 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.06.040

Multiple cohort HPV vaccination in Zimbabwe: 2018-2019 program feasibility, awareness, and acceptability among health, education, and community stakeholders
CONCLUSIONS: Findings demonstrate the presence of highly knowledgeable staff at health facilities and schools, strong community acceptance, and a school-based HPV program considered feasible to implement in Zimbabwe. However, misunderstandings regarding target eligibility and rumors persist, which can impact vaccine uptake and coverage. Continued social mobilization efforts to maintain community demand and training on eligibility were recommended. Integration, partnerships, and resource mobilization are also needed to ensure program sustainability.PMID:34144852 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.05.074

Vaccine hesitancy in migrant communities: a rapid review of latest evidence
Curr Opin Immunol. 2021 Jun 9;71:62-68. doi: 10.1016/j.coi.2021.05.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBy refusing or delaying vaccination, vaccine hesitant individuals and communities undermine the prevention, and ultimately, elimination of communicable diseases against which safe and effective vaccines are available. We reviewed recent evidence of vaccine hesitancy within migrant communities in the context of increased human mobility and widespread anti-immigrant sentiment and manifest xenophobia. Among many immigrant parents and families, vaccine hesitancy is largely associated with fears and misinformation about vaccine...

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake among a community-recruited sample of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in the three largest cities in Canada from 2017 to 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Sixty-five to 74% of men eligible for publicly-funded vaccine across the three cities remained unvaccinated against HPV by 2019. High vaccine cost may partly explain even lower uptake among men ≥ 27 years old. Men seeking sexual health care were more likely to initiate vaccination; bundling vaccination with these services may help improve HPV vaccine uptake.PMID:34074547 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.05.031

Safety of vaccines used for routine immunization in the United States: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Across a large body of research we found few associations of vaccines and serious key adverse events; however, rare events are challenging to study. Any adverse events should be weighed against the protective benefits that vaccines provide.PMID:34049735 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.03.079
