Pelvic Malunion: A Systematic Review, Dichotomy of Definitions and Treatment
Conclusions: Pelvic malunion is a rare complication of pelvic ring injury and is seldom discussed in the literature. We found two small case series reporting exclusively on malunion treatment and complications. While some of the combination studies made the distinction in the diagnosis of malunion and nonunion, they rarely differentiated the treatment outcomes between the two categories. This paper describes pelvic malunion and highlights the need for more research into surgical outcomes of treatment specifically regarding functionality, patient satisfaction, and recurrence of preoperative symptoms.PMID:36013565 | PMC:PMC9...

Periodontal therapy for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in people with periodontitis
CONCLUSIONS: For primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in people diagnosed with periodontitis and metabolic syndrome, very low-certainty evidence was inconclusive about the effects of scaling and root planning plus antibiotics compared to supragingival scaling. There is no reliable evidence available regarding secondary prevention of CVD in people diagnosed with chronic periodontitis and CVD. Further trials are needed to reach conclusions about whether treatment for periodontal disease can help prevent occurrence or recurrence of CVD.PMID:36194420 | PMC:PMC9531722 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD009197.pub5

Effectiveness and risks of cricoid pressure during rapid sequence induction for endotracheal intubation.
CONCLUSIONS: There is currently no information available from published RCTs on clinically relevant outcome measures with respect to the application of cricoid pressure during RSI in the context of endotracheal intubation. On the basis of the findings of non-RCT literature, however, cricoid pressure may not be necessary to undertake RSI safely, and therefore well-designed and conducted RCTs should nonetheless be encouraged to properly assess the safety and effectiveness of cricoid pressure. Worth a quick look? Initial scene previews can guide eye movements as a function of domain-specific expertise but can also have unforeseen costs.
Rapid scene recognition is a global visual process we can all exploit to guide search. This ability is thought to underpin expertise in medical image perception yet there is no direct evidence that isolates the expertise-specific contribution of processing scene previews on subsequent eye movement performance. We used the flash-preview moving window paradigm (Castelhano & Henderson, 2007) to investigate this issue. Expert radiologists and novice observers underwent 2 experiments whereby participants viewed a 250-ms scene preview or a mask before searching for a target. Observers looked for everyday objects from real-world ...

Guidelines on radiographic imaging as part of root canal treatment: a systematic review with a focus on review imaging after treatment
ConclusionsThe recommendations for post‐endodontic treatment radiographic follow‐up varied among the identified guidelines. However, the methodology for obtaining the scientific evidence was poorly described in most of the guidelines. Guideline development groups should use the AGREE II instrument as a guide to produce higher quality guidelines. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
