Healthcare use and clinical investigations before a diagnosis of ovarian cancer: a register-based study in Denmark
CONCLUSIONS: Increased healthcare use was seen relatively closely to the time of diagnosis for women with OC. This indicates a narrow window of opportunity for a timelier diagnosis. Still, the use of specialised assessment increased at six to eight months before the diagnosis. When women present unspecific symptoms, awareness of potential ovarian malignancies and safety-netting by the general practitioner may be pivotal.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Not relevant.PMID:37644395 | PMC:PMC10466681 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02132-3

Diagnostic accuracy of heart auscultation for detecting valve disease: a systematic review
Conclusion Sensitivity, specificity and LRs of auscultation varied considerably across the different studies. There is a sparsity of data from general practice, where auscultation of the heart is usually one of the main methods for detecting VHD. Based on this review, the diagnostic utility of auscultation is unclear and medical doctors should not rely too much on auscultation alone. More research is needed on how auscultation, together with other clinical findings and history, can be used to distinguish patients with VHD. PROSPERO registration number CRD42018091675.

Point-of-care ultrasound in general practice: an exploratory study in rural South Australia
CONCLUSION: Although POCUS has diverse potential applications in rural practice, GPs reported limited confidence for certain scans and used POCUS predominantly for obstetric indications. Further studies should examine the barriers to POCUS utilisation, with particular attention to training requirements, reimbursement for use and access to machines.PMID:36792605 | DOI:10.22605/RRH7627

Bedside ultrasound in adult primary care.
Orv Hetil. 2022 Dec 25;163(52):2067-2071. doi: 10.1556/650.2022.32683. Print 2022 Dec 25.ABSTRACTIt is hard to imagine a modern hospital ward without a mobile ultrasound, bedside (point-of-care) sonography (POCUS) is a technique of the 21st century, which in emergency medicine settings (for example during primary survey) might replace the stethoscope at times. In emergency medicine - which is the hospital discipline closest to primary care - bedside ultrasound is part of the routine care by now, and its use is based on evidences of thorough research. Given that the emergency outpatient population is getting closer to prima...
