Data on pre-implant hemodynamic optimization before continuous flow left ventricular assist device placement (CF-LVAD) with respect to patient-centered outcomes remain limited. Consecutive patients undergoing CF-LVAD implant between 2007 and 2017 were identified. Analysis of Trends and Outcomes of 90 and 180 Day Readmissions After Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
Despite decreasing morbidity and mortality in left ventricular assist device (LVAD) recipients, readmission after implantation remains a major problem. Our aim was to investigate the trends and outcomes of 90 and 180 day readmission in this population. The National Readmission Database from 2012 to 2017 was queried to identify LVAD recipients. A total of 5,907 adults (90 day readmissions) and 3,653 adults (180 day readmissions) who survived LVAD implantation during the index admission were included in our analysis. Prognostic Factors for Survival After Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Cardiogenic Shock
The aim of this study is to examine factors that can predict mortality in patients that have veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) instituted for cardiogenic shock. A single-center, retrospective study of 127 patients who underwent VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock between January 2003 and December 2017 was conducted. Eighty-three (65%) patients survived to weaning or bridging therapy. Complications on VA-ECMO include: hemorrhage (40%), stroke (14%), requirement for dialysis (42%), and limb ischemia (24%). It was the purpose to quantify the hemodynamic effects of a bolus of hypertonic glucose injected into the extracorporeal system in a group of stable and nondiabetic patients during hemodialysis (HD).
