Impact of percutaneous coronary intervention on chronic total occlusion in the non-infarct-related artery in patients with STEMI: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with STEMI accompanied by CTO in the non-IRA, staged MV-PCI may be better compared with culprit-only PCI due to potential reduced risks of all-cause mortality, cardiac death, stroke, MACE, and heart failure. Meanwhile, further randomized trials are warranted to confirm or refute our findings.PMID:35674511 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2085319

Carotid Plaque Composition and the Importance of Non-Invasive in Imaging Stroke Prevention
Front Cardiovasc Med. 2022 May 16;9:885483. doi: 10.3389/fcvm.2022.885483. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTLuminal stenosis has been the standard feature for the current management strategies in patients with atherosclerotic carotid disease. Histological and imaging studies show considerable differences between plaques with identical degrees of stenosis. They indicate that specific plaque characteristics like Intraplaque hemorrhage, Lipid Rich Necrotic Core, Plaque Inflammation, Thickness and Ulceration are responsible for the increased risk of ischemic events. Intraplaque hemorrhage is defined by the accumulation of blood compon...

Long-term outcomes of mechanical versus biological valve prosthesis in native mitral valve infective endocarditis
Conclusion. The use of mechanical mitral valve prosthesis is associated with lower long-term mortality compared to the biological prosthesis in non-elder native mitral valve infective endocarditis patients. The routine choice of biological mitral valve prostheses for this patient group is not supported by the results.PMID:35652503 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2079712

Relation of MRI Aortic Wall Area and Plaque to Incident Cardiovascular Events: The Framingham Heart Study
Conclusion In middle-aged community-dwelling adults, thoracic aortic wall area (AWA), plaque prevalence, and plaque volumes measured with MRI were independently associated with incident cardiovascular disease, with AWA associated in particular with stroke, and plaque associated with coronary heart disease. Clinical trial registration no. NCT00041418 © RSNA, 2022 Online supplemental material is available for this article. Brain structure and stroke risk score in subjects without a history of atrial fibrillation
Scand Cardiovasc J. 2022 Dec;56(1):100-102. doi: 10.1080/14017431.2022.2074094.ABSTRACTCHA2DS2-VASc score system aids in clinical decision-making in subjects with atrial fibrillation (AF). Little is known on the association between CHA2DS2-VASc scores and brain structure in patients without cardiac arrhythmia. Detailed brain architecture analysis was performed. Assessment of bivariate correlation between the volume of segmented brain structures and Z-scores of CHA2DS2-VASc showed that higher risk scores correlated negatively and significantly with various brain framework. Our study confirms that a cluster of risk factors i...

Hybrid type II and frozen elephant trunk in acute Stanford type A aortic dissections
Conclusion. Hybrid II should be considered in favour of FET technique in acute Stanford type A dissection patients who are at higher risk due to age and comorbidities.PMID:35546567 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2074095
