Prognosis importance of low flow in aortic stenosis with preserved LVEF
Conclusions In patients with severe AS and preserved LVEF, LF, as assessed using cardiac catheterisation is frequent, and is an independent predictor of mortality. Consequently, the measurement of SVi should be systematically included in the assessment of these patients.

A novel approach to extraction of a large thrombus on the intraventricular guide‐wire during transcatheter aortic valve replacement
We report a case where a large guide‐wire thrombus identified during TAVR was successfully removed using a novel approach, preventing a potentially major stroke in this high‐risk patient. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Left atrial appendage closure: First in man with the 4th generation watchman device
ConclusionsLAA closure with the 4th generation WATCHMAN device is feasible and safe. New technical features may contribute to a better performance of the occluder, particularly regarding the risk of pericardial effusions. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

HeartStitch touts new PFO closure method
Structural heart focused HeartStitch said today its NobleStitch EL device was used to repair 3 patients with patent forman ovale heart defects in Astana, Kazakhstan. A patent foramen ovale is a congenital heart disease in which hole in the heart that normally seals at birth remains open, and can lead to severe migraines, visual auras and stroke, the company said. The procedures were performed by Dr. Michael Mullen and guided by Anthony Nobles at the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center in Astana, according to the company. “We are gratified that our colleagues from abroad have brought this technology to Kazakhstan...

Left ventricular systolic torsion is correlated to right ventricular dilation in pulmonary hypertension patients
Conclusion: We concluded that left ventricular torsion which plays a key role in left ventricular systolic function and stroke volume is affected in PH patients with MPAP higher than 35 mmHg and is correlated to right ventricular dilation.

Meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing percutaneous coronary intervention with aspiration thrombectomy Vs. Conventional percutaneous coronary intervention during ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction
ConclusionsUsing the totality of evidence available through 2015, this meta‐analysis failed to show that the routine use of aspiration thrombectomy in patients with ST‐elevation myocardial infarction significantly reduces all‐cause mortality, MACE, recurrent MI, TVR, or stent thrombosis. The role of aspiration thrombectomy in selected patients with angiographic evidence of large thrombus burden requires further clinical investigation. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Efficacy and safety of transcatheter aortic valve replacement in intermediate surgical risk patients: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsIn this meta‐analysis we found that TAVR may be an acceptable alternative to SAVR in patients with intermediate risk for surgery. However, we must await evidence from the current large randomized trials before widespread adoption of this procedure is undertaken. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion: Effect of device positioning on outcome
ConclusionsNo evidence for a difference in the occurrence of the safety and efficacy endpoint was found between patients with complete vs. incomplete ACP disc coverage of the LAA ostium. The risk of repositioning attempts in case of incomplete coverage does not seem to be warranted. Current findings need further confirmation in a larger scale clinical trial. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion using different technologies in the United Kingdom: A multicenter registry
ConclusionsLAAO can be performed safely in a real world setting with good implant success rates and procedural outcomes. The long‐term benefits of the procedure are reassuring in terms of both ischemic events and avoidance of severe bleeding associated with anticoagulation in this patient group. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Clinical outcomes associated with per ‐operative discontinuation of aspirin in patients with coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Conclusion: Our analysis suggests that planned short‐term discontinuation in the appropriate clinical setting appears to be safe in the correct clinical setting with no increased risk of thrombotic events and with a decreased risk of bleeding. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Early Results of Surgical Simultaneous Therapy for Significant Carotid Artery Stenosis and Heart Disease
Conclusion Simultaneous coronary bypass grafting as a single procedure or in combination with valve replacement and endarterectomy of severe carotid lesions with or without patients' history of previous stroke can be performed with a calculated low surgical risk. The complication rate for neurologic and myocardial events is low compared with the hazard of a single surgical repair. The in-hospital mortality is not significantly different to isolated procedures. The concomitant appearance of coronary stenosis and carotid artery disease is reasonable due to the nature of arteriosclerosis. In our opinion these patients benef...
