Association of Brain Arterial Elongation With Risk of Stroke and Death in Stroke-Free Individuals: Results From NOMAS
CONCLUSIONS: In a multiethnic cohort of stroke-free adults, brain arterial elongation did not correlate with risk of stroke or death, nor influenced the significant association between brain arterial dilation and vascular risk.PMID:36727517 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.122.318819

Association between vertebrobasilar artery geometry and vertebrobasilar stenosis, recurrence, and death in posterior circulation stroke and transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: The geometric characteristics of the VBA are associated with vertebrobasilar stenosis, LAA stroke, 1-year recurrence, and death in posterior circulation stroke and TIA. VBA geometry may be used to stratify the risk of stroke and TIA in the posterior circulation.PMID:37598548 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107306

Update on Neurocritical Care of Stroke
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review will highlight the recent advancements in acute ischemic stroke diagnosis and treatment, with special attention to new features and recommendations of stroke care in the neurocritical care unit.Recent FindingsNew studies suggest that pre-hospital treatment of stroke with mobile stroke units and telestroke technology may lead to earlier stroke therapy with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), and recent studies show tPA can be given in previously contraindicated situations. More rapid automated CT perfusion and angiography may demonstrate a vascular penumbra for neuroendovascu...

Etiologic reclassification of cryptogenic stroke after implantable cardiac monitoring and computed tomography angiography re-assessment
DISCUSSION: One or more potential covert stroke sources can be recognized in half of the patients with a cryptogenic stroke through long-term cardiac monitoring and focused CTA re-assessment.PMID:36098839 | PMC:PMC9469058 | DOI:10.1007/s00415-022-11370-x

Relationship between the stroke mechanism of symptomatic middle cerebral artery atherosclerotic diseases and culprit plaques based on high-resolution vessel wall imaging
CONCLUSION: The culprit plaque characteristics of patients with symptomatic MCA atherosclerotic in different stroke mechanisms may be evaluated using HR-VWI. The plaque characteristics of different stroke mechanisms may have clinical value for the selection of treatment strategies and prevention of stroke recurrence.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: Identifier: ChiCTR1900028533.PMID:36188409 | PMC:PMC9523534 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.968417

Susceptibility vessel sign in subacute stroke patients with large vessel occlusion
CONCLUSION: In subacute stroke patients, the occurrence rate of SVS sign in CE group was lower than that of LAA group. The significance of SVS sign in the differentiation of stroke subtype needs further validation.PMID:34916694

Predictive utility of stress tests in the detection of asymptomatic coronary artery disease in atherosclerotic stroke patients
CONCLUSION: Myocardial ischemia and CV events were infrequent and both strongly associated with ECG signs of necrosis, suggesting a low yield of stress tests and the potential for a more straightforward algorithm in the choice of patients eligible to coronary angiogram or other coronary imaging in post-stroke setting.PMID:37567133 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107290

Abstract 241: Design and Clinical Outcomes of INSTOR (Interventional Stroke Therapy Outcomes Registry) Poster Session II
Conclusions: INSTOR presents instant online graphical and numerical results including "door to CT", "door to IV tPA", "time for return of laboratory results" and "time to angiography", etc. Process trends are presented with graphed monthly median data points overlain by a logistic regression trend line. The computerized multisite database also has the capability of automatically sending text massage or email reminders to designated recipients for follow-up events such as discharge information or 90-day mRS. INSTOR instantly performs complex multifactorial analyses of numerous measures of clinical outcomes for both IV tPA a...

Frequency and predictors of diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention related to stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the large national registry, PCI ± DCA is associated with fewer risk factors and lower rate of periprocedural strokes than isolated DCA.PMID:34472076 | DOI:10.33963/KP.a2021.0100

Outcomes Following Mechanical Thrombectomy in Different Etiological Subtypes of Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion : Stroke Etiology and Outcome after EVT in BAO
CONCLUSION: The functional outcome following EVT for VBOS might depend on stroke etiology. According to our results, ESUS seems to be associated with the worst outcome, which needs further investigation to tailor the appropriate therapeutic plan.PMID:36175676 | DOI:10.1007/s00062-022-01217-3
