Stroke prevention by endovascular treatment of carotid and vertebral artery dissections
Conclusions Patients with CAD and VAD differ significantly in presentation, indications for treatment, and treatment methods. Endovascular treatment of CAD and VAD has low procedural morbidity and is associated with a low incidence of future stroke.

Corrective spinal surgery may be protective against stroke in patients with blunt traumatic vertebral artery occlusion.
CONCLUSIONS Traumatic VA occlusion is associated with a risk of ischemic stroke and mortality. Corrective cervical spine surgery potentially decreases the risk of ischemic stroke by stabilizing the spine and thereby reducing motion across the occluded segment of the VA and preventing embolization of thrombus. ConclusionOsteogenesis imperfecta (OI) has been associated with numerous cerebrovascular conditions including carotid cavernous fistulas, cerebral aneurysms, and carotid dissections with attendant risk of stroke. While our patient was able to be successfully treated for his initial carotid dissection in the acute phase, he was at higher risk for stroke, whereas his subsequent carotid dissection was identified pre-symptomatically and treated electively. ConclusionsFDS appear to be a safe and effective tool for reconstruction of a symptomatic dissection in tortuous cervical ICAs. Discussion This patient had subacute onset of cervical cord infarction. The history and MRI findings were in keeping with cervical dissection. The vertebral artery is most vulnerable as it travels in the vertebral foramen and makes a curvature at C1–2 and dissection at this point usually causing cerebellar infarction and lateral medullary syndrome. E-049 Accuracy of non-invasive and invasive imaging in identifying ica occlusion: a comparative study in 65 patients
Conclusion Our result suggests that there is a lack of correlation between the imaging findings of carotid occlusion on imaging compared with catheter angiography of the ICA during the intervention in acute stroke treatment. Thus, endovascular catheterization of the ICA is often required for the exact characterization and localization of the carotid occlusion and to determine if a dissection is the underlying pathology in such cases.
