Cross-Validation of the Factorial Validity of the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 in Patients With Stroke
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Neither the eight- nor the four-domain structure of the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 was supported, suggesting that scores may not provide valid assessments of HRQOL in clients with stroke. Further modification and validation of the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 are warranted.WHAT THIS ARTICLE ADDS: Our findings suggest that the eight- and four-domain scores of the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 may not be valid. Therefore, until more supporting evidence is developed, these scores should be interpreted cautiously in regard to clients' HRQOL; alternatively, other measures could be used.PMID:33657349 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2021.040659

Association Between Intensity of Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Reduction With Statin-Based Therapies and Secondary Stroke Prevention: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This study suggests that the benefits and risks of more intensive LDL-C-lowering statin-based therapies for recurrent stroke risk reduction might be more favorable than the benefits and risks of less intensive LDL-C-lowering statin-based therapies, especially for patients with evidence of atherosclerosis.PMID:35188949 | DOI:10.1001/jamaneurol.2021.5578

IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 1944: Stroke to Dementia Associated with Environmental Risks —A Semi-Markov Model
Conclusion: Experiments showed that the proposed semi-Markovian model outperformed other benchmark diagnosis algorithms (i.e., linear regression, decision tree, random forest, and support vector machine), with a high R2 of 90%. The proposed model also facilitated an accurate prognosis on the transition time of stroke from chronic diseases to dementias against environmental risks and rehabilitation factors.

Long-Term Outcomes for Patients with Stroke After Coronary and Valve Surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative stroke often leads to high mortality and poor long-term outcomes. Patients who experienced a severe stroke and underwent neurosurgical procedures also exhibited poor outcomes. Patients and their families should be informed of relatively high mortality and poor long-term outcomes before neurosurgical operation. PMID: 29501638 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 2550: Long-Term Mortality and Medical Burden of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with and without Subsequent Stroke Episodes
Conclusion: The mortality risk of patients with COPD is considerably increased by stroke independent of the other effects of COPD. Moreover, the average number of hospitalization days and frequency of medical visits dramatically increased in patients with COPD after stroke.

Independent predictors of medication adherence among Singaporean patients following an ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack
ConclusionMedication adherence was poor in Singaporean patients following an ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack. The independent predictors identified in this study will support healthcare professionals to develop tailored intervention to improve medication adherence among this group of patients. Relevance to clinical practiceNurses play an important role in promoting patients’ medication adherence. Helping stroke patients understand the long‐term benefits of their medications is essential to enhance patients’ medication adherence and results in better health outcomes. This article is protected by copyright....
