In-hospital outcomes of transcarotid artery revascularization and carotid endarterectomy in the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative
Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) with flow reversal offers a less invasive option for carotid revascularization in high-risk patients and has the lowest reported overall stroke rate for any prospective trial of carotid artery stenting. However, outcome comparisons between TCAR and carotid endarterectomy (CEA) are needed to confirm the safety of TCAR outside of highly selected patients and providers.

Age but not sex is associated with higher risk of in-hospital stroke or death after carotid artery stenting in symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid stenosis
The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation of age and sex with the outcome after carotid artery stenting (CAS). We used the statutory nationwide quality assurance database in Germany, in which, among others, all endovascular procedures on the extracranial carotid artery are filed.

Timing of Hospital-acquired Venous Thromboembolism and Its Relationship with Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Measures in Immobile Patients
The aim of this study is to describe the timing of venous thromboembolism (VTE) diagnosis in patients with cerebral or spinal trauma and stroke and describe the relationships between VTE prophylaxis and timing of VTE diagnosis at a community hospital.

CAD 2. Perioperative Complication Risk Prediction According to Carotid Plaque Ulceration in 964 Consecutive Carotid Endarterectomies
The role of the carotid plaque fibrous cap in carotid-related stroke risk has been demonstrated in many studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the presence of a carotid plaque ulcer and the perioperative complication risk in a consecutive series/cohort of patients submitted to carotid endarterectomy (CEA) at our academic tertiary hospital.

Quality Improvement in Timing and Delivery of Carotid Endarterectomies at The Ottawa Hospital: Is the Pendulum Swinging Too Far?
Quality improvement initiatives at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) have aimed to reduce time between symptom onset and carotid endarterectomy (CEA) delivery. However, recent evidence suggests that perioperative stroke risk may be higher in the hyperacute setting. The study objective was to identify factors —such as timing—that lead to adverse outcomes after CEA.

The Dutch Audit of Carotid Interventions: Transparency in Quality of Carotid Endarterectomy in Symptomatic Patients in the Netherlands
This study describes the design of the DACI and results of patients with a symptomatic stenosis undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA). It aimed to evaluate variation between hospitals in process of care and (adjusted) outcomes, as well as predictors of major stroke/death after CEA.

Factors that Predict Failure to Meet Merit-Based Incentive Payment System Quality Measures for Asymptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy
Hospital records of patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for asymptomatic stenosis were evaluated in the state of Florida between 2008 and 2012.

Cost Analysis of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Compared with Warfarin in Patients with Blunt Traumatic Intracranial Hemorrhages.
Abstract Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are rapidly gaining popularity as alternatives to warfarin in the prevention of stroke or systemic embolic events because of the simplicity of their dosing and lack of monitoring requirement. Many physicians feared that these novel agents would be cost-prohibitive not only in their administration but also in their sequelae of bleeding, given the few reversal agents available. Whereas the medication itself is more expensive than traditional warfarin, the total cost of a hospital admission has not been compared between patients on DOACs and warfarin who have sustained a bl...

VESS05. In-Hospital Outcomes of Transcarotid Artery Revascularization and Carotid Endarterectomy in the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative
This study compares initial in-hospital outcomes of CEA and TCAR using the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Vascular Quality Initiative TCAR Surveillance Project done in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to create more information for future coverage decisions.

PC060. Does Anesthesia Technique Modify the Risk of Routine and Selective Shunting During Carotid Endarterectomy?
In this study, we aim to evaluate whether the anesthetic choice and intraoperative neuromonitoring method modify the risk of in-hospital stroke/death with each shunting approach.

SS24. Transcarotid Artery Revascularization versus Transfemoral Carotid Artery Stenting in the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative
The Safety and Efficacy Study for Reverse Flow Used during Carotid Artery Stenting Procedure (ROADSTER) multicenter trial reported the lowest stroke rate in high-risk patients compared with any prospective trial of transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS). However, clinical trials have selection criteria that exclude many patients, and are highly selective of operators performing the procedures, which limit generalizability. The aim of this study was to compare in-hospital outcomes after transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) and TFCAS as reported in the Vascular Quality Initiative.

Hospital and Institutionalisation Care Costs after Limb and Visceral Ischaemia Benchmarked Against Stroke: Long-Term Results of a Population Based Cohort Study
There are few published data on the acute care or long-term costs after acute/critical limb or visceral ischaemia (ACLVI) events. Using data from patients with acute events in a population based incidence study (Oxford Vascular Study), the present study aimed to determine the long-term costs after an ACLVI event.
