Impact of the Health Gym Program on hospital admissions for stroke in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the Health Gym Program (HGP) on hospital admissions for stroke in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. This policy impact evaluation used a quasi-experimental approach consisting of a difference-in-differences estimator, weighted by propensity score matching to deal with potential confounding variables. The study comprised socioeconomic, demographic, and epidemiological data from official Brazilian databases from 2010 to 2019. Substance naturally found in humans is effective in fighting brain damage from stroke
(Henry Ford Health System) A molecular substance that occurs naturally in humans and rats was found to 'substantially reduce' brain damage after an acute stroke and contribute to a better recovery, according to a newly released animal study by researchers at Henry Ford Hospital.The study, published online before print in Stroke, the journal of the American Heart Association, was the first ever to show that the peptide AcSDKP provides neurological protection when administered one to four hours after the onset of an ischemic stroke.

Hospital Costs Of Ischemic Stroke And Transient Ischemic Attack In The Netherlands
Advances in the prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) during the past two decades have resulted in changes of medical practice. However, the existing cost estimates of ischemic stroke and TIA are based on resource use and cost data of approximately 20 years ago. We therefore determined hospital costs of ischemic stroke and TIA in the Netherlands for 2012.

Emergency transport times for stroke patients still in need of improvement
(Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery) Despite efforts to close the time gap between symptom onset and stroke treatment -- including improvements in public education, 911 dispatch operations, pre-hospital detection and triage, hospital stroke system development, and stroke unit management -- a new study presented today at the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery 12th Annual Meeting suggests that delays in emergency transport are still prevalent and that improvements are needed to ensure patients can be treated within the optimal time window.

First systemic evidence for safety of tPA in stroke patients with sickle cell disease
(Medical University of South Carolina) Adult patients with sickle cell disease who experience a stroke caused by a clot (i.e., ischemic strokes) can be treated safely with tissue plasminogen activator if they qualify, report investigators at the Medical University of South Carolina and elsewhere in the March 2017 issue of Stroke. The investigators analyzed in-hospital patient data obtained from the Get With The Guidelines -- Stroke database.
