Evaluating the introduction of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis as a  benefit of statutory health insurance (EvE-PrEP) : Highly effective protection against HIV without an increase in sexually transmitted infections
DISCUSSION: PrEP proved to be a very effective HIV prevention method. The partly feared indirect negative influences on STI rates were not confirmed in this study. Due to the temporal overlap with the containment measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, a longer observation period would be desirable for a conclusive assessment.PMID:37436444 | DOI:10.1007/s00103-023-03733-0

The Red River Cart Model: a M étis conceptualization of health and well-being in the context of HIV and other STBBI
CONCLUSION: The Red River Cart Model provides a holistic view of the determinants of Métis health and has potential as a collaborative client assessment resource for STBBI community health service providers. Pregnancy and STI/HIV prevention intervention preferences of South African adolescent girls: findings from a cultural consensus modelling qualitative study
Cult Health Sex. 2023 Apr 6:1-17. doi: 10.1080/13691058.2023.2194357. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSouth African adolescent girls experience high rates of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections including HIV. To inform culturally-tailored dual protection interventions to prevent both unintended pregnancy and STIs/HIV, this study qualitatively examined girls' sexual health intervention preferences. Participants were aged 14-17 years old and Sesotho-speaking (N = 25). To elucidate shared cultural beliefs, individual interviews examined participants' perceptions about other adolescent girls' pregnancy and S...

The social construction of the PrEP1519 study: conditions of possibility for advances in HIV/AIDS prevention
Cad Saude Publica. 2023 Mar 27;39Suppl 1(Suppl 1):e00201621. doi: 10.1590/0102-311XEN201621. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThis paper analyzed the genesis of the PrEP1519 study and feasibility conditions for its construction. A qualitative-approach study was conducted using the Bourdieusian sociology framework to reconstruct the dynamics of the social environment where PrEP1519 emerged during 2015-2018. A document analysis and ten in-depth interviews were carried out to analyze the trajectory of the project. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) was introduced in Brazil as a public policy in 2017. The lack of scientific evidence avai...

Building bridges to care: the experience of peer navigation in enabling linkage to PrEP for adolescent men who have sex with men and transgender women
Cad Saude Publica. 2023 Mar 27;39Suppl 1(Suppl 1):e00176821. doi: 10.1590/0102-311XEN176821. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTVulnerable populations are at increased risk for HIV/AIDS, especially adolescent men who have sex with men (AMSM) and adolescent travestis and transgender women (ATGW). Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is one component of combination HIV prevention and is already available for these populations in Brazil. However, ensuring its uptake entails certain challenges since inequality and barriers have traditionally marked access and linkage to the related public health services. Peer navigation could be a way of me...
