Vaccination coverage in children under one year of age and associated socioeconomic factors: maps of spatial heterogeneity
CONCLUSIONS: the results are useful for designing interventions regarding the structuring of vaccination services and the implementation of actions to increase vaccination coverage in clusters with less propensity to vaccinate.PMID:37729269 | DOI:10.1590/0034-7167-2022-0734

Thinking on Your Feet Well: Building Adaptive Expertise in Learners Using Simulation
On this episode of the Academic Medicine Podcast, Sam Clarke, MD, MAS, and Jon Ilgen, MD, PhD, join host Toni Gallo to discuss the importance of teaching adaptive expertise to prepare learners for the types of complex cases they will encounter in clinical practice. This conversation also covers what adaptive expertise is, how simulation can be used to foster this skill in learners, and the complementary relationship between performance-oriented cases and adaptive cases in health professions education. This episode is now available through Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else podcasts are available. ...

Neurocysticercosis: diagnosis via metagenomic next-generation sequencing
Pract Neurol. 2023 Jul 19:pn-2023-003795. doi: 10.1136/pn-2023-003795. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 68-year-old Brazilian woman had 3 months of progressive fatigue, difficulty walking and 18 kg weight loss. On examination, there was gait apraxia and executive dysfunction. MR scan of brain showed communicating hydrocephalus and a cerebrospinal fluid showed 105 white cells/µL (≤5), predominantly lymphocytes, protein of 1.35 g/L (0.15-0.45) and the glucose content of 0.06 mmol/L (3.3-4.4). We suspected an infective cause and used of metagenomic next-generation sequencing to diagnose neurocysticercosis. This case highlig...

Cryptogenic new-onset super-refractory status epilepticus following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. A case report
CONCLUSION: It is crucial to report suspected adverse reactions associated with SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, thereby allowing continued monitoring of the risk/benefit ratio of vaccination.PMID:37303102 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7612.2022374

COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab and cribriform fracture
We describe a 54-year-old woman presenting with persistent colourless nasal discharge for 2 weeks following a traumatic COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab. A β2-transferrin test confirmed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea and a high-resolution sinus computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a cribriform plate defect. Magnetic resonance imaging showed radiological features of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH): a Yuh grade V empty sella and thinned anterior skull base. Twenty-four hour intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring confirmed raised pressures, prompting insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The patient ...
