Meningitis associated with HHV-7 in an Iranian immunocompetent adolescent girl
This article reports an immunocompetent adolescent girl who developed fever, headache, and meningism which CSF molecular analysis with PCR was positive only for HHV-7. Interestingly, persistent cavum septum pellucidum and cavum vergae were observed on brain magnetic resonance imaging. The patient received antibiotics, dexamethasone, and acyclovir and then she gained full recovery. HHV-7 is a rare and yet possible pathogen in patients with meningitis, and this is the first described case report from Iran.PMID:37212976 | DOI:10.1007/s13365-023-01127-1

Reversible Intracranial Cytotoxic Edema Associated with COVID-19: A Case Report
CONCLUSION: Abnormal neuroimaging findings caused by COVID-19 are quite common. Although not specific to COVID-19, cerebral cytotoxic edema is one of these neuroimaging findings. ADC measurement values are significant for planning follow-up and treatment options. Changes in ADC values in repeated measurements can guide clinicians about the development of suspected cytotoxic lesions. Therefore, clinicians should approach cases of COVID-19 with CNS involvement without extensive systemic involvement with caution.PMID:37189282 | DOI:10.2174/1573405620666230515090534

COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab and cribriform fracture
We describe a 54-year-old woman presenting with persistent colourless nasal discharge for 2 weeks following a traumatic COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab. A β2-transferrin test confirmed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea and a high-resolution sinus computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a cribriform plate defect. Magnetic resonance imaging showed radiological features of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH): a Yuh grade V empty sella and thinned anterior skull base. Twenty-four hour intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring confirmed raised pressures, prompting insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The patient ...
