Artificial Intelligence improves novices' bronchoscopy performance - a randomized controlled trial in a simulated setting
Chest. 2023 Aug 22:S0012-3692(23)05276-5. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.08.015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Navigating through the bronchial tree and visualizing all bronchial segments is the initial step toward learning flexible bronchoscopy. A novel bronchial segment identification system based on artificial intelligence (AI) has been developed to help guide trainees toward more effective training.RESEARCH QUESTION: Does feedback from an AI-based automatic bronchial segment identification system improve novice bronchoscopists' end-of-training performance?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The study was conducted as a ra...

Pediatric Hearing Aid Management: Experiences and Perspectives of Spanish-Speaking Parents
CONCLUSIONS: This study provided insights into hearing aid management experiences and perceptions of Spanish-speaking parents. Parents described variability for audiology services, routines for hearing aid use and care, and access to other parents of children with hearing loss. Spanish-speaking parents present additional elements in the hearing care process that need to be incorporated in planning. Remote services may be an opportunity to enhance access to support that could improve effectiveness of hearing aid management.PMID:37616190 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00070

Pharmacotherapeutic profile, polypharmacy and its associated factors in a cohort of people living with HIV in Brazil
CONCLUSIONS: We found high rates of polypharmacy and concomitant medication use in a cohort of PWH in Brazil. Targeted interventions should be prioritized to prevent interactions and improve treatment, especially among individuals using central nervous system and cardiovascular medications, as well as certain groups such as cisgender women, older individuals and those with lower education. Standardized protocols for continuous review of patients' therapeutic regimens should be implemented.PMID:37605195 | PMC:PMC10440883 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-023-00548-6

Development and validation of an HPLC method for quantification of dolutegravir in human plasma
Biomed Chromatogr. 2023 Aug 22:e5708. doi: 10.1002/bmc.5708. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDolutegravir (DTG) has been the first-line drug in many human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) guidelines for the treatment of naïve and experienced HIV-infected individuals, which calls for cost-effective and convenient methods for quantitative detection of DTG in human plasma for pharmacokinetic studies and patient adherence evaluation. Here, an HPLC-ultraviolet method in combination with liquid-liquid extraction with isocratic elution was developed for the first time. The analysis was performed...

Decision Aids in the ICU: a scoping review
Conclusions The complexity of treatment decisions in the ICU exceeds the current capabilities of existing decision aids. There is a clear gap in decision aids that are tailored to different cultural contexts, highlighting the need to expand the scope of their application. In addition, rigorous quality control is very important for randomised controlled trial, and indicators for assessing the effectiveness of decision aids need to be further clarified.
