Survey of blood collection and transfusion practices among institutions in Africa
This study highlights significant variability and restrictions in blood product availability, pre-transfusion testing, and blood donor infectious disease testing across Africa. Further studies are needed to ascertain barriers to improving blood donor availability, blood product safety, and infectious disease testing.PMID:37646070 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17501

Transfusion-transmitted HBV infection with isolated anti-HBs-positive blood
CONCLUSION: Whatever the basic infection state, blood donors with isolated weak anti-HBs may include a small population with a risk of causing TT-HBV. Identifying individuals harboring such TT-HBV risk among individuals positive only for anti-HBs is difficult under current screening strategies. Active surveillance for the occurrence of TT-HBV with blood positive only for anti-HBs is necessary.PMID:37129363 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17390

Development of a validation protocol method for nucleic acid testing to detect human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis C virus, and hepatitis B virus
An Acad Bras Cienc. 2022 Nov 21;94(suppl 3):e20211321. doi: 10.1590/0001-3765202220211321. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe concern about the risks of viral infections transmission through blood transfusion has led into a search for improvements on screening tests used for the selection of blood donors. Molecular biology techniques applied in researches of viral genomes, known as Nucleic Acid-amplification-Test (NAT), represent a technology capable of increasing transfusion safety by shortening the diagnostic window period. In Brazil, the implementation of this technology for the detection of HIV, HCV and HBV occurred due to t...
