Sensors, Vol. 21, Pages 4269: Deep Learning-Based Stroke Disease Prediction System Using Real-Time Bio Signals
Jae-Hak Yu The emergence of an aging society is inevitable due to the continued increases in life expectancy and decreases in birth rate. These social changes require new smart healthcare services for use in daily life, and covid-19 has also led to a contactless trend necessitating more non-face-to-face health services. Due to the improvements that have been achieved in healthcare technologies, an increasing number of studies have attempted to predict and analyze certain diseases in advance. Research on stroke diseases is actively underway, particularly with the aging population. Stroke, which is fatal to the elderl...

American Heart Association to hold virtual 2020 Oahu Heart Walk event
The American Heart Association ’s 2020 Oahu Heart Walk will be held virtually this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Participants will not physically meet, but rather be challenged to walk 4.5 miles on their own and track their steps to submit online. Oahu Heart Walk will celebrate heart and stroke survivors and encour age physical activity, while raising more than $800,000 in funds for research, advocacy and training. It starts on August 8 and will run through August 14. The event is being…

COVID-19-Associated Coagulopathy: Role of Vitamins D and K
Curr Pharm Biotechnol. 2022 May 27. doi: 10.2174/1389201023666220527110455. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecent reports show coagulopathy as a potential complication and poorer outcome of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), especially in those with comorbid conditions such as diabetes and hypertension as thrombosis could result in stroke and heart attacks. Indeed, cardiovascular complications in COVID-19 accounts for 40% of mortality. Although there is no standard treatment protocol or guidelines for COVID-19, it is a common practice to use anti-inflammatory corticosteroids and anti-coagulants, especially for severe COVI...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 8615: A Catalogue of Machine Learning Algorithms for Healthcare Risk Predictions
is Kyriazis Extracting useful knowledge from proper data analysis is a very challenging task for efficient and timely decision-making. To achieve this, there exist a plethora of machine learning (ML) algorithms, while, especially in healthcare, this complexity increases due to the domain’s requirements for analytics-based risk predictions. This manuscript proposes a data analysis mechanism experimented in diverse healthcare scenarios, towards constructing a catalogue of the most efficient ML algorithms to be used depending on the healthcare scenario’s requirements and datasets, for efficient...
