Evaluation of programmed cell death ligand 1 expression in a contemporary cohort of penile squamous cell carcinoma and its correlation with clinicopathologic and survival parameters: A study of 134 patients
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, PD-L1 expression is associated with high-grade and metastatic tumors. Lower PD-L1 expression is observed more frequently in HPV-associated (warty or basaloid) subtypes than in other, predominantly HPV-independent types. As a result, PD-L1 positivity, including higher expression, portends lower overall and cancer-specific survival. These data provide a rational for further investigating PD-L1-based immunotherapeutics in PC.PMID:37639681 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad107

HPV disrupt  the cytoskeleton in oral squamous cell carcinomas from non-oropharyngeal sites via the E-cadherin/Mena/SMA pathway
In conclusion, in non-oropharyngeal OSCC, cytoskeleton activity might be driven by the Mena/E-cadherin/SMA axis, reflecting active epithelial-mesenchymal interaction. High Mena intensity is an indicator of poorly differentiated carcinomas with high-risk HPV and unfavorable prognosis.PMID:37544131 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.154723

Virus-associated neuroendocrine cancers: Pathogenesis and current therapeutics
Pathol Res Pract. 2023 Jul 27;248:154720. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2023.154720. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) comprise malignancies involving neuroendocrine cells that often lead to fatal pathological conditions. Despite escalating global incidences, NENs still have poor prognoses. Interestingly, research indicates an intricate association of tumor viruses with NENs. However, there is a dearth of comprehension of the complete scenario of NEN pathophysiology and its precise connections with the tumor viruses. Interestingly, several cutting-edge experiments became helpful for further screening of NE...

Human papillomavirus maybe is a critical player in the regulation of chemoresistance related factors (P53, Rb, TWIST, Bcl-2, Bcl-XL, c-IAP2, cytochrome C, and caspase 3) in breast cancer
This study suggests that HPV infection might contribute to BCa chemoresistance through disrupt cellular genes involved in cell death.PMID:37454490 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.154653

Significance of concurrent HPV testing with unsatisfactory Papanicolaou test for prediction of follow-up HPV, Papanicolaou test, and biopsy results
Am J Clin Pathol. 2023 Jul 7:aqad070. doi: 10.1093/ajcp/aqad070. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVES: Approximately 1% to 2% of routine cytologic specimens collected for Papanicolaou testing are unsatisfactory for evaluation. The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology 2019 guidelines recommend repeat testing within 2 to 4 months of an unsatisfactory Papanicolaou test (UPT) result.METHODS: We evaluated the utility of follow-up Papanicolaou testing, human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, and biopsy in 258 cases of UPTs.RESULTS: High-risk HPV testing was positive in 17.4% (n = 45) and negative in 82.6% (n = ...
