Rivaroxaban Reduces Arterial Thrombosis by Inhibition of FXa Driven Platelet Activation Via Protease Activated Receptor-1.
Conclusions: Here we identified FXa as potent platelet agonist that acts through PAR1. Therefore, RIVA exerts an antiplatelet effect that together with its well-known potent anticoagulatory capacity might lead to reduced frequency of atherothrombotic events and improved outcome in patients. Mitochondrial Deacetylase Sirt3 Reduces Vascular Dysfunction and Hypertension While Sirt3 Depletion in Essential Hypertension Is Linked to Vascular Inflammation and Oxidative Stress.
Conclusions: We suggest that Sirt3 depletion in hypertension promotes endothelial dysfunction, vascular hypertrophy, vascular inflammation and end-organ damage. Our data support a therapeutic potential of targeting Sirt3 expression in vascular dysfunction and hypertension. PMID: 31852393 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Loss of Endothelial Endoglin Promotes High-Output Heart Failure Through Peripheral Arteriovenous Shunting Driven by VEGF Signalling.
Conclusions: ENG promotes the normal balance of VEGF signalling in quiescent ECs to maintain vessel calibre, an essential function in conditions of increased VEGF expression such as local hypoxia or inflammation. In the absence of endothelial ENG increased sensitivity to VEGF drives abnormal endothelial proliferation in local regions of high VEGF expression, leading to AVM formation and a rapid injurious impact on heart function. Circulating Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 and Risk of Stroke: A Meta-Analysis of Population-Based Studies Involving 17,180 Individuals.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher circulating levels of MCP-1 are associated with increased long-term risk of stroke. Our findings along with genetic and experimental evidence suggest that MCP-1-signaling might represent a therapeutic target to lower stroke risk. PMID: 31476962 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relationship Between Serum Alpha-Tocopherol and Overall and Cause-Specific Mortality.
CONCLUSIONS: In this long-term prospective cohort study, higher baseline serum α-tocopherol biochemical status was associated with lower risk of overall mortality and mortality from all major causes. Our data support the long-term health benefits of higher serum α-tocopherol for overall and chronic disease mortality and should be replicated in other more diverse populations. The Mediterranean Diet and Cardiovascular Health.
Abstract The Mediterranean diet (MedDiet), abundant in minimally processed plant-based foods, rich in monounsaturated fat from olive oil, but lower in saturated fat, meats, and dairy products, seems an ideal nutritional model for cardiovascular health. Methodological aspects of Mediterranean intervention trials, limitations in the quality of some meta-analyses, and other issues may have raised recent controversies. It remains unclear whether such limitations are important enough as to attenuate the postulated cardiovascular benefits of the MedDiet. We aimed to critically review current evidence on the role of the ...

Nut Consumption in Relation to Cardiovascular Disease Incidence and Mortality among Patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher consumption of nuts, especially tree nuts, is associated with lower CVD incidence and mortality among participants with diabetes. These data provide novel evidence that supports the recommendation of incorporating nuts into healthy dietary patterns for the prevention of CVD complications and premature deaths among individuals with diabetes. NHLBI-Sponsored Randomized Trial of Postconditioning During Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction.
CONCLUSIONS: We found no early benefit of PostC on infarct size, MSI and LV function compared to routine PCI. However, PostC was associated with improved LV remodeling at one year of follow-up, especially in subjects with MVO. PMID: 30602360 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Serum Beta Carotene and Overall and Cause-Specific Mortality.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that higher beta carotene biochemical status is associated with lower overall, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other causes of mortality. The dose-response associations over a 30-year period were not attenuated by adjustment for other important risk factors and support greater fruit and vegetable consumption as a means to increase beta carotene status and promote longevity. Safety and Efficacy of Intracoronary Infusion of Allogeneic Human Cardiac Stem Cells in Patients with ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction and Left Ventricular Dysfunction: A Multicenter Randomized, Double-Blind and Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.
Conclusions: Allogeneic cardiac stem cells can be safely administered in STEMI patients with LV dysfunction early after revascularization. Low immunogenicity and absence of immune-mediated events will facilitate adequately powered studies to demonstrate their clinical efficacy in this setting.Clinical Trial Registration: NCT 02439398.
