Accounting for fractionation and heterogeneous dose distributions in the modelling of osteoradionecrosis in oropharyngeal carcinoma treatment
CONCLUSION: Risk models for ORN based on conventional DVH parameters cannot be directly applied to HF-SBRT fractionation schemes and dose distributions. However, after correcting for fractionation and non-uniform dose distributions using EUD, a single model can distinguish between ORN and non-ORN after conventionally fractionated radiotherapy and hypofractionated boost treatments.PMID:37659662 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109889

Primary tumor site for localized Merkel cell carcinoma drives different management strategies without impacting oncologic outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with primary MCC who had RT as a component of their initial treatment strategy, anatomically-driven heterogeneous treatment approaches were associated with equally excellent locoregional disease control.PMID:37659660 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109892

Need for standardization in the use of structures in the intensity-modulated radiation therapy planning of head and neck cancers, a GORTEC study
Conclusion Use of nsRS is frequent but heterogeneous and should be standardized further in line with ICRU initiatives in IMRT planning. Use of nsRS should be documented with respect to the need for nsRS from dose computation algorithms of treatment planning systems and IMRT machines in terms of modulation capacity and plan robustness.PMID:37659657 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109895

The prognosis of patients with prostate cancer receiving permanent seed implantation stratified by prostate volume: should we be reluctant to treat with brachytherapy because of a very small prostate ( & lt;15 cc)?
CONCLUSIONS: Our results obtained by analyzing a very large Japanese prospective database showed no difference in treatment outcomes according to PV (<15 cc, 15-20 cc, and ˃20 cc). Our study confirmed that PI in small prostates (even <15 cc) remains an effective treatment option.PMID:37597804 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109855

Interpretable AI-assisted Clinical Decision Making (CDM) for dose prescription in radiosurgery of brain metastases
CONCLUSION: Interpretable CNN models were successfully developed to use CT images and non-image clinical parameters to predict dose prescriptions for brain metastases patients treated by radiosurgery. Models showed high prediction accuracy while providing an interpretation of the decision process, which was validated by the physician. Such interpretability makes the model more transparent, which is crucial for the future clinical adoption of the models in routine practice for CDM assistance.PMID:37543055 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109842

Stereotactic body radiation therapy for sarcoma pulmonary metastases
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest series of patients treated with SBRT for pulmonary sarcoma metastases. We observed that SBRT offers an effective alternative to surgical resection with excellent local control and low proportions of toxicity.PMID:37532104 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109824
