Dual inhibition of the renin–angiotensin system in high-risk diabetes and risk for stroke and other outcomes: results of the ONTARGET trial

Chymase inhibition improves vascular dysfunction and survival in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats
Conclusion:Chymase might play an important role in vascular dysfunction via augmentation both of matrix metalloproteinase-9 activity and monocyte/macrophage accumulation in SHR-SP, and its inhibition may be useful for preventing vascular remodeling and prolonging survival.

Introgressed chromosome 2 quantitative trait loci restores aldosterone regulation and reduces response to salt in the stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat
Conclusion:Our findings suggest that introgression of the chromosome 2 congenic interval from the WKY into the SHRSP strain is associated with restored aldosterone regulation sufficient to reduce salt-sensitive hypertension and proteinuria.

Relative systolic blood pressure reduction and clinical outcomes in hyperacute intracerebral hemorrhage: the SAMURAI-ICH observational study
Conclusion: Insufficient relative SBP reduction after standardized antihypertensive therapy in hyperacute ICH was independently associated with poor clinical outcomes. Aggressive antihypertensive treatment may improve clinical outcomes.

MRI progression of cerebral small vessel disease and cognitive decline in patients with hypertension
Conclusion: In patients with hypertension, progression of periventricular WMH over 4 years is associated with cognitive decline, whereas we could not show an association between baseline periventricular WMH and cognitive decline. These results emphasize the importance of preventing progression of WMH in hypertensive patients.

Fenofibrate attenuates cardiac and renal alterations in young salt-loaded spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats through mitochondrial protection

Do patients actually do what we ask: patient fidelity and persistence to the Targets and Self-Management for the Control of Blood Pressure in Stroke and at Risk Groups blood pressure self-management intervention
Conclusion: Most patients randomized to self-management completed training; however, 36% of these had dropped out by 12 months. Self-monitoring was largely undertaken properly and accurately recorded. Fidelity with self-management was associated with lower achieved SBP. Successful implementation of self-management into daily practice requires careful training and should be accompanied by monitoring of fidelity.
