Cardiovascular effects of relaxin-2: therapeutic potential and future perspectives
Clin Res Cardiol. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1007/s00392-023-02305-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe hormone relaxin-2 has emerged as a promising player in regulating the physiology of the cardiovascular system. Through binding to the relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1), this hormone elicits multiple physiological responses including vasodilation induction, reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress, and angiogenesis stimulation. The role of relaxin-2, or its recombinant human form known as serelaxin, has been investigated in preclinical and clinical studies as a potential therapy for cardiovascular diseases, especi...

Lung immune prognostic index ‑based nomogram for recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after postoperative adjuvant TACE
CONCLUSION: Preoperative LIPI might be a powerful predictor for RFS in HCC patients received PA-TACE. The LIPI-based nomogram could further effectively predict the risk of recurrence and help clinicians formulate personalized follow-up strategies and adjuvant therapy to improve patient outcomes.PMID:37707573 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05413-7

The effectiveness of motivational interviewing on adherence to wearing orthopedic shoes in people with diabetes at low-to-high risk of foot ulceration: a multicenter cluster-randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: One podiatrist-led MI-consultation in its current form did not result in higher adherence to wearing orthopedic shoes in people with diabetes 3 and 6 months after inclusion.PMID:37704109 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2023.110903

Development and implementation of a student tumor board as a teaching format for medical students
CONCLUSION: Active participation in a student tumor board can empower students to tackle the diverse challenges of caring for cancer patients within an interdisciplinary team during the early stages of their careers. The student tumor board represents an innovative, learner-centered approach to teach interdisciplinary cancer treatment, communication strategies, and ethical aspects of medical practice.PMID:37698680 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05336-3

Impact of the lipase inhibitor orlistat on the human gut microbiota
This study aimed to explore the effects of orlistat on the gut microbiota and fatty acid metabolism of Japanese individuals with obesity. Fourteen subjects with visceral fat obesity (waist circumference ≥85 cm) took orlistat orally at a dose of 60 mg, 3 times a day for 8 weeks. Body weight; waist circumference; visceral fat area; levels of short-chain fatty acids, gut microbiota, fatty acid metabolites in the feces, and gastrointestinal hormones; and adverse events were evaluated. Body weight, waist circumference, and blood leptin concentrations were significantly lower after orlistat treatment (mean ± standard deviatio...

Application of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network-distress thermometer in pediatric patients during autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and relationship to blood parameters of the stress axis
CONCLUSIONS: In summary, a significantly increased stress level is shown for both the patients and their parents. This is reflected for the patients both in the DT scores and in the increased cortisol values. For the parents, the focus is primarily on worry and anxiety, for the patients primarily on exhaustion and worry.PMID:37676266 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05300-1
