A Survey on Knowledge of Stroke Subtypes and Etiology at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (P1.260)
Conclusions: HS is an under recognized part of stroke subtype at MTRH. Kenya has yet to develop specific national guidelines for HS management. The goal is to utilize the results from this survey to develop education and process improvement initiatives. Teaching a Neurology Continuing Medical Education Course to Ghanaian Physician Assistants (P1.281)
Conclusions: The provision of education in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions to primary care providers is one intervention that can address the limited supply of neurologists in lower income countries. This study suggests that a continuing medical education course can increase participant self-confidence in major topics in neurology and that the most valuable contribution of an educational intervention could be instruction in the neurological exam.Disclosure: Dr. O'Donnell has nothing to disclose. Using a Knowledge-Based Survey on Urban, Minority Hypertensive Patients to Develop a Patient-Focused Stroke Risk Educational Video (P2.383)
Conclusions: Our animated video presented hypertension and stroke education based on patient knowledge assessments. Expert evaluation by SAC provided validity of the video’s educational content and design. Development of a tailored educational video allows for future investigation of the effects of tailored hypertension and stroke education on medically underserved, minority communities and high risk populations. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogvmez5yxq0wqjz/The[percnt]20Pressure[percnt]20is[percnt]20Up[percnt]20-[percnt]20Video[percnt]20v2.mp4?dl=0Disclosure: Dr. Kwan has nothing to disclose. Proprietary Software Enhancement of Digital Subtraction Angiography for Perfusion Mapping of Posterior Circulation (P6.022)
Conclusion: AngioViz DSA enhancement technique may reliably identify patients with intra-procedural neurovascular perfusion deficits for posterior circulation when none exists. Further larger retrospective analysis and prospective validation studies for reproducibility and reliability of this software application are needed.Disclosure: Dr. Avignon has nothing to disclose. Improving Telestroke Performance in Rural Systems of Care - The EQUITe Initiative (P6.084)
Conclusions: This is the largest outcomes study to date of acute telestroke encounters in rural US hospitals. The number of AIS consults treated with tPA was high indicating increased access to acute tele-neurological expertise. Teleconsultation physician response time was rapid, while patient arrival time to consult call was much longer. More work is needed to ensure better adherence to DTN guidelines. In PhaseII, we are determining the impact of an innovative telestroke education program on timeliness/outcome of treatment.Disclosure: Dr. Solenski has nothing to disclose. Rate of Endovascular Therapy in Octogenarian/Nonagenarian Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Compared to Younger Patients (I2.007)
Conclusions: Frequency of EVT and IV-TPA use in AIS patients 蠅80years are increasing but rates remain significantly lower compared with younger patients. Disparity in EVT use in octogenarian/nonagenarian also exists by race and hospital factors. Targeted efforts are needed to lessen this disparity.Disclosure: Dr. Otite has nothing to disclose. Teaching NeuroImages: Severe vasospasm in traumatic brain injury
A 45-year-old man had a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) with multicompartmental hemorrhages (figure 1). He was initially noted to be awake and following commands with his right side. Two weeks later, his examination deteriorated to coma with flaccid quadriplegia. Initial workup, including EEG, was unrevealing. MRI brain showed new multiterritorial infarcts (figure 1); a catheter-based angiogram confirmed severe vasospasm in several large vessels (figure 2).

Teaching Video NeuroImages: Alternating skew deviation with abducting hypertropia following superior colliculus infarction
A 63-year-old patient was admitted with acute ataxia and binocular oblique diplopia. Neuro-ophthalmologic examination revealed abducting hypertropia on lateral gaze, better seen during upgaze, mimicking bilateral inferior oblique palsy (video, figure). There was no ocular cyclotorsion. Brain MRI revealed focal ischemic lesions in the right cerebellar hemisphere and left superior colliculus (figure). The diagnosis of alternating abducting hypertropic skew deviation was made. This rare type of skew deviation is related to central otolithic dysfunction. Similar cases have been described with cerebellar, pretectal, or cervico-...

Missed Ischemic Stroke Diagnosis in the Emergency Department by Emergency Medicine and Neurology Services Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Atypical symptoms associated with posterior circulation strokes lead to misdiagnoses. This was true at both an academic center and a large community hospital. Future studies need to focus on the evaluation of identification systems and tools in the emergency department to improve the accuracy of stroke diagnosis.
