Long-term outcomes after conservative and EDAS treatment for 111 elderly patients with moyamoya disease: longitudinal and cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: The postoperative long-term stroke rate among elderly patients with MMD was lower in the EDAS group than in the conservative treatment group. Long-term stroke events were associated with advanced age, aneurysm, and initial ischemia after conservative treatment and only initial hemorrhage after EDAS.PMID:37724788 | DOI:10.3171/2023.7.JNS231060

Direct puncture of the superior ophthalmic vein for carotid cavernous fistulas: a 21-year experience
Conclusion Direct SOV cannulation to treat CCFs is safe and effective. Although it is typically used after other endovascular approaches have failed, SOV access for CCF treatment may be warranted as a first-line treatment for select patients.

Relationship between cerebral vasospasm vascular territory and functional outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
Conclusions In aneurysmal SAH, left-sided vasospasm is associated with worse discharge functional status. At 6 months, both ACA and BA vasospasm are associated with unfavorable functional status.

Reocclusion after successful endovascular treatment in acute ischemic stroke: systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion In cohorts of patients with AIS due to LVO, 5% of patients experienced reocclusion within 7 days after successful EVT. Repeated EVT can be a safe and effective treatment for selected patients with reocclusion.

Post-reperfusion hyperperfusion after endovascular stroke treatment: a prospective comparative study of TCD versus MRI
Conclusions TCD is a reliable bedside tool to identify post-reperfusion hyperperfusion, correlates well with perfusion MRI, and indicates risk of reperfusion injury after MT.

Endovascular treatment of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms using the Nautilus Intrasaccular System: initial case series of 41 patients at a single center
Conclusion This study demonstrates good safety and effectiveness using the Nautilus Intrasaccular System to treat both ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Larger studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Bridging thrombolysis improves survival rates at 90 days compared with direct mechanical thrombectomy alone in acute ischemic stroke due to basilar artery occlusion: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 1096 patients
Conclusions In patients with AIS due to BAO, bridging IVT was associated with lower mortality rates at 90 days, compared with direct MT. There were no improved functional outcomes or increased sICH or SAH between both arms, However, patients with LAA benefited from bridging IVT, with better functional outcomes.

A prospective cohort study on decreased serum apelin-13 levels after human aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: associations with severity and prognosis
AbstractApelin-13 may have neuroprotective effects. We aimed to determine whether serum apelin-13 could serve as a potential biomarker for severity, delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), and prognosis after human aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). In this prospective, observational, cohort, single-center study of 139 patients with aSAH and 139 healthy individuals, serum apelin-13 levels were determined. The indicators of stroke severity were the Hunt-Hess scale and the modified Fisher grading scale. The prognostic parameters were DCI and 6-month worse prognosis (Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale scores of 1 –4). Using bi...

Association of moyamoya vasculopathy with autoimmune disease: a systematic review and pooled analysis
The objective of the present systematic review was to summarize the available literature investigating the association of MMD and AI conditions as a means of highlighting potential treatment strategies for this subset of moyamoya patients. Using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were queried to identify studies describing patients with concurrent diagnoses of MMD and AI disease. Data were extracted on patient demographics, clinical outcomes, and treatment. Stable or improved symptoms were considered favo...

The prognostic value of systemic immune-inflammation index in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a systematic review
AbstractAneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a devastating and life-threatening stroke subtype, that has a high disability and fatality rate. By the use of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), it is possible to understand the pathophysiology that underlies immune and inflammatory responses and anticipate consequences including delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), delayed cerebral vasospasm, and functional outcome. A systematic search of the English-language literature in PubMed and Embase was performed to locate articles addressing the usage of SII in aSAH patients. The cutoff value, sensitivity, specificity, ...

Incidence and Outcomes of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Multicenter Retrospective Registry-based Descriptive Trial in Kobe City
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2023 Aug 30. doi: 10.2176/jns-nmc.2023-0090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current study aims to evaluate the incidence and results of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) throughout Kobe City. Based on a multicenter retrospective registry-based descriptive trial involving all 13 primary stroke centers in Kobe City, patients with aSAH treated between October 2017 and September 2019 were studied. A total of 334 patients were included, with an estimated age-adjusted incidence of 11.12 per 100,000 person-years. Curative treatment was given to 94% of patients, with endovascular treatment (51%)...
