HELIAD study: Dementia prevalence in Greece (P3.095)
Conclusions:The prevalence of dementia and its subtypes in Greece is similar or at the lower range of that reported in many other European countries and globally. In our sample, increased age and decreased level of education status, but not gender, were predictive of a diagnosis of dementia with age being the strongest predictive factor.Study Supported by:Funding/Support: IIRG-09-133014 from the Alzheimer’s Association; 189 10276/8/9/2011 from the ESPA-EU program Excellence Grant (ARISTEIA) which is co-funded by the European Social Fund and Greek National resources; and Y2β/o.51657/14.4.2009 from the Ministry fo...

Pulse Pressure in Ischemic Stroke Is an Independent Predictor for Long-Term Stroke Outcomes (P3.101)
Conclusions:Our study demonstrated the long-term prognostic implications of PP in ischemic stroke patients and the modification of this effect by age. In first-ever ischemic stroke patients ≥60 years of age, PP was an independent predictor for long-term stroke outcomes.Study Supported by: This study was funded by the National Key Technology Research and Development Program in the 12th 5-year plan of China.Disclosure: Dr. Su has nothing to disclose. Race and Sex Differences in tPA Utilization among Older Ischemic Stroke Patients (P3.102)
Conclusions:Among older Americans, women and blacks have lower odds of being treated with IV-tPA, even after adjusting for age, insurance and medical comorbidities. A greater understanding of the reasons for these unexplained differences in the fastest growing proportion of our population is needed.Disclosure: Dr. Lyerly has nothing to disclose. IV tPA Utilization and Outcomes in Asian Americans (P3.103)
Conclusions:We confirmed U.S. ethnic differences in IV tPA utilization and found that Asians have lower rates of tPA treatment compared with Whites but higher rates than Blacks of Hispanics. Asians also have higher rates of hemorrhage and in-hospital death following tPA. These findings are limited by lack of data on stroke severity, mechanisms, and treatment times.Disclosure: Dr. Moya has nothing to disclose. Dr. Chong has nothing to disclose.

Disability and mortality after permanent feeding tube placement in patients with acute stroke (P3.107)
Conclusions:In our large cohort of patients with acute stroke and PEG tubes, nearly 9/10 had severe disability at discharge. From discharge to 1 year, there was no difference in mortality between PEG and NG patient cohorts. These results suggest that PEG tubes serve mainly to prolong survival in patients discharged with severe disability. Our study may help support guideline creation and facilitate discussions with patients and families regarding PEG tube placement after acute stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Joundi has nothing to disclose. Conclusions:NINDS encourages the use of CDEs by the clinical research community in order to standardize data collection across studies. The NINDS CDEs are a continually evolving resource, requiring updates as research advancements indicate. These newly developed SAH CDEs serve to be a valuable starting point for researchers and facilitate streamlining and sharing data. Information provided at this meeting will include examples of how the SAH CDEs and CRFs may be used by a research study, demonstrations of navigating the NINDS CDE and NIH CDE Repository websites and submitting feedback.Study Supported by: This project was f...

Language competence and brain structural integrity in children with perinatal stroke (P3.205)
Conclusions:The right hemisphere (RH) may play a more prominent role in language development than commonly assumed. This is consistent with other studies indicating early RH involvement in language and at odds with the assumption that the left hemisphere is "hard-wired" to be dominant for language from birth. It may also be the case that complex interactions between hemispheres are required to facilitate language development.Study Supported by:Supported by NIH #P50 NS22343 (D Trauner, PI)Disclosure: Dr. Trauner has received research support from Novartis.
