Development and Validation of a Claims-Based Model to Predict Levels of Obesity
Am J Epidemiol. 2023 Aug 30:kwad178. doi: 10.1093/aje/kwad178. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe developed and validated a claims-based algorithm that classifies patients into obesity categories. Using Medicare (2007-2017) and Medicaid (2000-2014) claims data linked to two electronic health records (EHR) systems in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, we identified a cohort of patients with an EHR-based BMI measurement. Utilization of diabetes self-management program among breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer survivors: Using 2006-2019 Texas Medicare data
CONCLUSIONS: Multi-level strategies to enhance accessibility and availability of DSMT programs for Medicare beneficiaries are highly recommended. Examining the determinants of initiation and retention of DSMT over 14 years provides insights on strategies to meet the needs of cancer survivors and reduce the burden of diabetes on them.PMID:37498914 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0289268

The Use of Interpreters in Health Centers: A Mixed-Methods Analysis
J Health Care Poor Underserved. 2023;34(1):224-245. doi: 10.1353/hpu.2023.0015.ABSTRACTHealth centers serve millions of patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) through highly variable language services programs that reflect patient language preferences, the availability of bilingual staff, and very limited sources of third-party funding for interpreters. We conducted a mixed-methods study to understand interpreter services delivery in federally qualified health centers during 2009-2019. Using the Uniform Data System database, we conducted a quantitative analysis to determine characteristics of centers with and with...
