Supportive care needs of patients who had a stroke: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Incidences of stroke are on the rise and approximately 80 million stroke survivors worldwide live with disabilities. Supportive care needs of stroke survivors are not adequately defined, and the assessment tools to help care service providers identify these needs are unclear. The overall aim of this scoping review will be to map the supportive care needs of stroke survivors against the Supportive Care Needs Framework. Methods and analysis This scoping review will be conducted following Arksey and O’Malley’s methodological framework and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) updated methodological guidance ...

Psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-harm repetition: protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Suicide is an important public health problem. Providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions to individuals presenting with self-harm is recognised as an important suicide prevention strategy. Therefore, it is crucial to understand which intervention is most effective in preventing self-harm repetition. We will evaluate the comparative efficacy of psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-harm in adults. Methods and analysis We will perform a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) testing psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-...

Methods for the involvement of people living with dementia in research focused on the built environment: a protocol for a scoping review
Introduction The positive influence of a well-designed built environment in dementia-specific care has been known for several years. Many studies focusing on the built environment have captured the perspectives of people living with dementia. However, it remains unclear to what degree and with which methods these individuals have been actively involved in research especially when attempting to understand their perspective. The planned scoping review aims to (1) synthesise methods and results from research about the built environment according to active involvement of people living with dementia and (2) describe facilitator...

Broadening access to tenofovir alafenamide for the treatment and prevention of HIV-1 infection
Expert Rev Clin Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 23. doi: 10.1080/17512433.2023.2251387. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), a prodrug of tenofovir achieves higher intracellular concentrations of tenofovir-diphosphate and 90% lower plasma concentrations of tenofovir compared to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). TAF is associated with improved renal and bone safety outcomes.AREAS COVERED: We review the efficacy and safety of TAF-containing regimens in adults and pediatrics. We highlight safety data during pregnancy, drug interactions during co-administration with tuberculosis treatment, and critic...

Comparison of BioLIFT versus LIFT for the treatment of trans-sphincteric anal fistula: a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis
This study details the protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of BioLIFT and LIFT to compare outcomes associated with each procedure. Methods and analysis MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Database will be searched from inception using a search strategy designed by an information specialist. Randomised controlled trials, prospective and retrospective cohort studies, consecutive series, cross-sectional studies and case series with more than five patients will be included. Both comparative and single group studies will be included. The eligible population will be adult patients undergoing BioLIFT or LIFT for tran...

Responsible exit of humanitarian aid agencies at the end of programmes: a scoping review protocol
The objective of this scoping review is to map evidence and knowledge gaps, to identify and describe concepts, theories and existing frameworks related to ‘responsible exit’ of humanitarian aid agencies. Methods and analysis Our search uses searches of several bibliographic databases (CAB Direct (including Global Health), Web of Science, PubMed and Google Scholar) as well as manual searches of specific journals and retrieval of grey literature through searches of organisational websites and direct contact with experts and organisations. Reference tracking will be used to identify additional sources. Searches w...

Use of artificial intelligence in the detection of primary prostate cancer in multiparametric MRI with its clinical outcomes: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) has transformed the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway, allowing for improved risk stratification and more targeted subsequent management. However, concerns exist over the interobserver variability of images and the applicability of this model long term, especially considering the current shortage of radiologists and the growing ageing population. Artificial intelligence (AI) is being integrated into clinical practice to support diagnostic and therapeutic imaging analysis to overcome these concerns. The following report details a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis in...

Prophylactic antibiotic use for infective endocarditis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Although there is a lack of randomised control trials due to logistic difficulties in the literature on this topic, antibiotic prophylaxis are likely of benefit in reducing the incidence of IE in high-risk patients after dental procedures. Further well-designed high-quality case-control studies are required. Trial registration number CRD42022326664.

Topical repellents for malaria prevention
CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to conclude that topical repellents can prevent malaria in settings where other vector control interventions are in place. We found the certainty of evidence for all outcomes to be low, primarily due to the risk of bias. A protective effect was suggested among high-risk populations, specially refugees, who might not have access to other standard vector control measures. More adequately powered clinical trials carried out in refugee camps could provide further information on the potential benefit of topical repellents in this setting. Individually randomized studies are also likel...
