Resonance Raman spectra of blue copper proteins: Variable temperature spectra of Thermus thermophilus HB27 laccase
J Inorg Biochem. 2023 Aug 24;248:112362. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2023.112362. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe resonance Raman (rR) spectra of the oxidized type 1 copper active site (CuT1) in Thermus thermophilus HB27 laccase (Tth-lac) has been determined in the 20 to 80 °C temperature range using 633-nm excitation. The positions and relative intensities of rR peaks are virtually independent of temperature, indicating that CuT1 ligation is robust over the investigated range. The intensity-weighted average of Tth-lac Cu-SCys vibrations (<ν(Cu-SCys)>) = 423 cm-1) is higher than those of most cupredoxins but is comp...

Dental restoration selection by students at southern Saudi Arabian universities
Bioinformation. 2022 Oct 31;18(10):986-990. doi: 10.6026/97320630018986. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTDental caries is a serious oral health concern and restoration of teeth is the main solution to this issue. Various restorative materials having different properties are used for posterior restoration. The aim of this study was to find that which factors can affect the choice of selection of material for posterior restoration among dental graduate students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was shared electronically among students of three different universities (King Khalid University, Jazan University, and Najran University)...

The Impact of the Social Determinants of Health on Athletic Trainer Availability in Indiana Secondary Schools
CONCLUSIONS: We found differences in AT availability and a different SDOH characteristics at the secondary school-level. There was less AT availability where high school graduation rates and population of primary care providers are lower. Strategies should be implemented to improve access to athletic health care in under-resourced communities.PMID:37655802 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0737.21

'Factors influencing future career choices of Queen's University Belfast Medical students.'
CONCLUSION: Uncertainty over future career intention remains common with surgery the least popular speciality. Mentorship, integrating flexibility in training and enhancing academic interest should be considered by educational stakeholders as mechanisms to generating undergraduate interest in a subspecialty. Furthermore, the reported rate of students intention to leave their medical degree prior to graduation by this cohort is concerning, warranting further investigation.PMID:37649912 | PMC:PMC10464625

Australian rural medical students' perceived readiness for work as a junior doctor: A cross-sectional national survey
DISCUSSION: Most RCS students felt ready for work as a junior doctor. Important aspects of RCS experience are likely to include students feeling integrated within the clinical team and having opportunities for authentic clinical roles. There remains a significant challenge for medical school curricula to address professional areas where graduates felt less prepared.PMID:37650537 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.13035

Lessons Learned From Contact Tracing During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Public Health Students' Experiences in the Field
This study employed a qualitative thematic approach to capture 11 graduate-level public health students' experiences, motivations, challenges, and recommendations on contact tracing procedures as DOH contract tracers. In-depth interview questions focused on students' interest in public health, experiences as a contact tracer, patient/case interactions, and personal outlook on the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic brought new experiences and challenges for public health students employed by local health departments as contact tracers. Three categories and subthemes emerged from interviews: (1) motivations to work as ...
