A Case Report of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia After ChAdOx1 nCov-19 Vaccination and Heparin Use During Hemodialysis
J Korean Med Sci. 2022 Mar 14;37(10):e75. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2022.37.e75.ABSTRACTVaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a rare but life-threatening complication. VITT strongly mimics heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) and shares clinical features. Heparin is commonly used to prevent coagulation during hemodialysis. Therefore, nephrologists might encounter patients needing dialysis with a history of heparin exposure who developed thrombotic thrombocytopenia after vaccination. A 70-year-old male presented with acute kidney injury and altered mental status due to lithium intoxication. He needed consec...

Renal replacement therapy associated with lithium nephrotoxicity in New Zealand.
CONCLUSION: Dosing and monitoring of patients prescribed lithium should follow guidelines, not only to avoid future psychiatric episodes and acute toxicity but also because such adherence may reduce uncommon but serious outcomes of long-term treatment such as end-stage kidney disease. Hemodialysis for lithium poisoning.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the use of hemodialysis to enhance the elimination of lithium in patients with lithium poisoning appears logical, there is no evidence from randomized controlled trials to support nor refute the use of hemodialysis in the management of patients with lithium poisoning. End-stage renal disease associated with prophylactic lithium treatment
Abstract: The primary aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of lithium associated end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and to compare the relative risk of ESRD in lithium users versus non-lithium users. Second, the role of lithium in the pathogenesis of ESRD was evaluated. We used the Swedish Renal Registry to search for lithium-treated patients with ESRD among 2644 patients with chronic renal replacement therapy (RRT)—either dialysis or transplantation, within two defined geographical areas in Sweden with 2.8 million inhabitants. The prevalence date was December 31, 2010. We found 30 ESRD patients with a history of...
