Fast and bioluminescent detection of antibiotic contaminants by on-demand transcription of RNA scaffold arrays
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Sep 8;1273:341538. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341538. Epub 2023 Jun 17.ABSTRACTCell-free biosensors have inspired low-cost and field-applicable methods to detect antibiotic contaminants. However, the satisfactory sensitivity of current cell-free biosensors is mostly achieved by sacrificing the rapidity, which prolongs turnaround time by hours. Additionally, the software-based result interpretation provides an obstacle for delivering these biosensors to untrained individuals. Here, we present a bioluminescence-based cell-free biosensor, termed enhanced Bioluminescence sensing of Ligand-Unleashed RNA Expres...

Antimicrobial resistance profile of Aeromonas spp. isolated from asymptomatic Colossoma macropomum cultured in the Amazonas State, Brazil
The objectives of this study were to isolate and identify the main putative pathogenic bacterial species in tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), establish the profile of resistance to antimicrobials by the methods of disc diffusion, and determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. Two hundred and ninety asymptomatic fish were collected between March and November 2015 from ten fish farms in the Amazonas state (Brazil). Of the total strains recovered from tambaqui, seven were identified as Aeromonas spp. by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene. These seven isolates showed resistance to ampicillin, 28% to erythromycin, an...

Environmental contamination in a high-income country (France) by antibiotics, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and antibiotic resistance genes: Status and possible causes
This report drew up an inventory of the contamination of aquatic and terrestrial environments by AMR and antibiotics, anticipating that the findings will be representative of some other high-income countries. Effluents of wastewater treatment plants were identified as the major source of contamination on French territory, with spreading of organic waste products as a more diffuse and incidental contamination of aquatic environments. A limitation of this review is the heterogeneity of available data in space and time, as well as the lack of data for certain sources. Comparing the French Measured Environmental Concentrations...
