Preparation and in Vitro/In Vivo Characterization of Sustained-Release Ciprofloxacin-Carrageenan Complex
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2023 Aug 22:S0939-6411(23)00215-1. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2023.08.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe goal of the study was to look into drug-polyelectrolyte complexation between ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and λ-carrageenan (CRG), and to employ the complex as a sustained-release matrix. The maximum binding capacity of the complexation was determined using the dialysis bag method and employed to prepare the complex. In comparison to Cipro, CRG, and their physical mixing, the complex was examined using differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and scanning e...

Case Report and Review of < em > Paracoccus yeei - < /em > A Novel Cause of Peritoneal Dialysis Peritonitis in the United Kingdom
We present the first case of Paracoccus yeei PD peritonitis reported in the United Kingdom (UK). A 70-year-old woman with chronic renal failure requiring PD presented with abdominal pain and cloudy dialysate. She was systemically well, with a normal white cell count and elevated C-reactive protein at 176. PD fluid was remarkable for 4495 polymorphonuclear leukocytes, 107 monocytes, and 10 red blood cells/cm3. No organisms were seen on microscopy. She was diagnosed with PD peritonitis and treated empirically with intraperitoneal vancomycin and oral levofloxacin. After two days, small, nonhemolytic gray-white colonies grew o...
