Global Bibliometric Analysis of Leishmaniasis Literature for the Last 20 Years and Investigating the Contribution of T ürkiye
CONCLUSION: The number of publications, especially in endemic areas, was found to be limited other than Brazil. Studies in this area should be supported to ensure the eradication of the disease.PMID:37724362 | DOI:10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.76376

Differential expression of Phlebotomus tobbi Adler, Theodor & amp; Lourie, 1930 (Diptera: Psychodidae) Genes Under Different Environmental Conditions
Acta Trop. 2022 Dec 25:106808. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2022.106808. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhlebotomus tobbi is a widely distributed sand fly species in Turkey and is the proven vector of Leishmania infantum and several Phleboviruses. Information regarding the genetic basis of phenotypic plasticity is crucial for managing vector-borne diseases, as the changing environmental conditions have consequences for the survival of arthropods and the disease agents they transmit. However, limited data is available on the impacts of environmental conditions on the traits associated with sand fly survival, reproduction, and ...

Could RPMI-1640 Medium be Used in the Diagnosis and Isolation of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Lacking NNN Medium?
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2022 Sep 12;46(3):249-252. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2022.27247.ABSTRACTLaboratory diagnosis of leishmaniasis is based on culture, microscopic examination, serological and molecular methods. The gold standard method is to see amastigotes in microscopic examination and to grow promastigotes in Novy, MacNeal, Nicolle (NNN) medium. NNN medium is frequently used for culture all over the world. In our study, it was aimed to investigate whether the use of RPMI-1640 medium is an appropriate method in cases where the gold standard NNN medium is not available for the diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL)....

MIS-C and Visceral Leishmaniasis Co-occurence: Has the Clinic of Other Diseases Masked in the Pandemia?
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2022 Sep 12;46(3):242-245. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2022.28290.ABSTRACTAt the end of 2019, the newly detected severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus (COVID)-2 in China spread rapidly and caused a global epidemic. It has been observed that the virus, which is the cause of COVID-2019 and can cause severe acute respiratory failure, later causes a hyperinflammatory picture and causes a clinical picture similar to Kawasaki disease. Fever, cardiac involvement and rash are the most common findings in this picture, which is called multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). Although its pathophysiolog...

CONCLUSION: These results showed that RB-mediated SDT on L. tropica could be a candidate treatment approach. This approach can be used for both superficial and deeply located lesions. This study emphasized the biophysical mechanisms, ultrasound exposure strategies, reliability and difficulties in the clinical practice of RB-mediated SDT on L. tropica promastigotes.PMID:36094116 | DOI:10.4274/tpd.galenos.2022.40412
