E-129 Trends in demographic and geographic disparities of stroke-related mortality in older adults in the United States from 1999 to 2020
Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the United States. Many risk factors are controversial, and their relative importance is not fully understood. Elucidating the association between demographic and geographic disparities and stroke-related mortality in older adults will guide policy to alleviate stroke burden. This retrospective cohort study characterizes stroke-related mortality among individuals aged 55 and older in the United States from January 1999 to December 2020 using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research database. Segmented regressio...

Clinical features and outcome of stroke with COVID-19. COVID-19 Stroke Study Group (CSSG), India
Conclusions: CoVS is associated with higher severity, poor outcome, and increased mortality. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and baseline stroke severity are independent predictors of mortality.

Outcome of COVID-19 & #8211;Associated Acute Stroke: A Study from South India
Conclusion: Poor outcomes were relatively higher among acute stroke patients with concomitant COVID-19 infection. In the present study, we established the independent predictors of poor outcome to be onset of COVID-19 symptoms (<5 days) and elevated levels of CRP, D-dimer, interleukin-6, ferritin, and Ct value ≤25 in acute stroke.

COVID-19 and \ stroke: Incidental, triggered or causative
Rohit Bhatia, M V. Padma SrivastavaAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2020 23(3):318-324 Stroke is a serious neurological complication observed during the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus associated disease 2019) pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome, corona virus 2) and includes both ischemic stroke and intracerebral haemorrhage. We reviewed factors that could potentially contribute to the occurrence of stroke among patients with COVID-19. There could be an interaction between the conventional risk factors of stroke, infection, systemic inflammatory response and plaque destabilisation. Inflamma...

A case of ischemic stroke and transient thrombocytopenia in a young female following adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccination: Was the association incidental or causal?
We report a 23-year-old healthy female who developed seizures, altered sensorium, and left hemiparesis, 20 days after receiving the first dose of adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccine "Covishield™." The patient had transient thrombocytopenia. The D-dimer level was 2460 ng/mL. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated occlusion of M2 segment of the middle cerebral artery and cerebral infarction. Platelet factor-4 antibodies level was normal. Treatment with aspirin and antiepileptic drugs resulted in a remarkable recovery. This is the first Indian case report of ischemic stroke and transient thrombocytopenia followi...

Isolated Acute Cerebrovascular Involvement in COVID-19 without Fever and Respiratory Symptoms: An Indian Perspective
CONCLUSION: Isolated cerebrovascular involvement can be a presentation of COVID-19.Stroke severity and mortality is higher in COVID-19 with young strokes being no exemption. Development of fever was associated with clinical worsening. COVID-19 pandemic is far from over in India, such atypical presentations need to be recognized early and warrant stringent diagnostic protocols.PMID:34227776
