Chronic hepatitis B virus infection in Slovenian national cohort of kidney transplant patients
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of anti-HBc-positive patients in the national cohort of kidney transplant patients in Slovenia was 9.2%. Based on the specific combination of HBV markers (anti-HBc, anti-HBs, HBsAg, HBV DNA) we stratified patients into six subgroups. Algorithm on follow-up, hepatitis B vaccination, chemoprophylaxis, or treatment is presented for each of the specific subgroups.PMID:34643503 | DOI:10.5414/CNP96S21

Network 13 partnership to improve the influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and hepatitis B vaccination rates among dialysis patients.
Authors: Duval L, George C, Hedrick N, Woodruff S, Kleinpeter MA Abstract Vaccinations are available for primary prevention of many infections in adults. Morbidity and mortality from invasive diseases such as influenza and Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) remain high and may be largely preventable by vaccination of high-risk adults, including dialysis patients. The current 23-valent vaccine-efficacious, with a low adverse event profile-is widely available. Revaccination is also recommended in patients with immunocompromising conditions, including chronic kidney disease. Despite having many opportunities to b...

Spanish multicentre PIBHE study: Prevalence and immunization of chronic hepatitis B in haemodialysis patients in Spain.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of chronic HBV infection in haemodialysis in Spain is low and so are the rates of immunisation against the virus. The vaccination schedules used are very diverse and have been observed to correlate with the immune response. It would therefore be necessary to establish a protocol for the most effective vaccination schedule to increase immunisation in these patients. PMID: 26875043 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Preventing Hepatitis B in the Dialysis Unit
Publication date: May 2019Source: Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease, Volume 26, Issue 3Author(s): Vivek Soi, Sandeep SomanPatients with end-stage renal disease are at risk for contracting hepatitis B virus (HBV) because of their exposure to blood products and compromised immune status. Despite a decrease in the incidence of HBV infection, continued vigilance in the form of surveillance is imperative in preventing the spread of this robust DNA virus. Regular review of serologic markers with isolation and decontamination practices as appropriate are paramount to maintaining a safe environment for dialysis to occur. Vaccinat...
