Effectiveness and Safety of Ustekinumab for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: According to low-quality evidence mainly from cohort studies and case series, approximately one half of patients with CD and UC/IBD-U achieved remission at 1 year. Ustekinumab has a reasonable safety profile and dose optimization is frequently required. Data on the long-term benefit and high-quality evidence are still needed.PMID:37528211 | DOI:10.1007/s40272-023-00586-7

Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children, affecting 1 in 11 children in the UK. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) form the foundation of asthma management, with well-controlled asthma associated with little or no need for short-acting bronchodilators (ie, salbutamol).1 Research consistently highlights that non-adherence to preventer inhalers is associated with poor outcomes1; the number of ICS canisters used per year is inversely related to the rate of death due to asthma.2 When searching the internet for photos of children issuing inhalers, search engine results almost exclusively depict a salbutamol inhaler atta...

Pediatr Ann. 2023 May;52(5):e192-e197. doi: 10.3928/19382359-20230307-02. Epub 2023 May 1.ABSTRACTThis literature review outlines the current pathogenesis, clinical features, and complications of infantile hemangiomas and explores the current treatment modalities, including corticosteroids, surgery, pulsed dye laser, and beta-blockers. Although oftentimes benign, these lesions can potentially lead to physical or cosmetic disfigurement in growing children. The issue of depth and location-dependent treatment for infantile hemangiomas is explored as it reveals which treatments are correlated with better outcomes in specific p...
