Image fusion using hybrid methods in multimodality medical images
AbstractAn image fusion based on multimodal medical images renders a considerable enhancement in the quality of fused images. An effective image fusion technique produces output images by preserving all the viable and prominent information gathered from the source images without any introduction of flaws or unnecessary distortions. This review paper intends to bring out the process of image fusion, its utilization in the medical domain, merits, and demerits and reviews the perspective of multimodal medical image fusion. It also discusses the involvement of various medical entities like medical resonance imaging (MRI), posi...

The Delay Multiply and Sum Beamforming Algorithm in Ultrasound B-Mode Medical Imaging
Most of ultrasound medical imaging systems currently on the market implement standard Delay and Sum (DAS) beamforming to form B-mode images. However, image resolution and contrast achievable with DAS are limited by the aperture size and by the operating frequency. For this reason, different beamformers have been presented in the literature that are mainly based on adaptive algorithms, which allow achieving higher performance at the cost of an increased computational complexity. In this paper, we propose the use of an alternative nonlinear beamforming algorithm for medical ultrasound imaging, which is called Delay Multiply ...

Safety for MRI patients with implanted medical devices
Introduction: Thanks to the high diagnostic power of magnetic resonance scanners, there is a steady increasing in the number of patients undergoing magnetic resonance exams while having an implanted medical device. At the same time, even though a few old regulatory burdens within the Italian law have been recognized as partially outmoded and misguided in the recent publication of the ISS ISTISAN 15/9 report, they are still of impediment to performing exams in patients with medical devices. In this work, some results regarding the use of medical devices in children undergoing to MRI at 1.5 T and 3.0 T are presented.
